Which Airline From The US To Mexico And Viceversa?

Tue Mar 30, 2004 11:15 am

In terms of price, safety, preference, a/c, and timetables, wich airline would you prefer on the United States-Mexico flights??

My vote goes to AM and DL, then MX and maybe CO.

Cheers

IAH-CAN on Continental. I was surprised at how quick the flight was going there on a 734. Came back on a 752. It was the first time I had flown Continental and I had a good experience to say they least ( I can now see why CO is doing better than many of the majors).

Go-CO...

I prefer Continental, I've flown them Nonstop from Houston to several Mexican cities. I've flown Aviacsa to Monterey once, and they were okay. I flew AM once and was not that overimpressed, though not treated in an ill way or anything.

As a minor sidenote I prefer CO to Belize as well, I go there often and like them better than TACA (also both out of Houston).

Depends on if you're headed from US to Mexico or if your destination is the US. If you're bound for Mexico the charter airlines often (although not always) provide good air fares and non-stop service. Otherwise, I'd agree that CO has great service and a good network in Mexico.

In terms of price, sometimes CO is awesome but MX and AM also have good fares many times (I think one can get a good fare from all the airlines depending on time of year, anticipation, luck, special offers, etc.). I immediately thought of CO because I flew my Mom and my aunt MEx-ORD via IAH last summer for U.S.$284.00 return each.

As for safety, I really don't think there is an issue. All the legacy U.S. carriers and at least the five largest Mexican carriers (AM, MX, 6A, ZE and JR) have very good safety records and well-maintained planes.

My preference is AM because I am a DL f.f., but I can see me going with MX instead of AM if I get to fly an A319 instead of a DC-9 for example (all other things being equal).

Timetables is a case-by-case issue. I really like AM flight 404 MEx-JFK (I like MX MEx-EWR-MEx even more, but they are only available Fri., Sat. and Sun./Mon., which sucks). If going to DFW, though, AM's schedule is very inconvenient, whereas AA offers a great variety of times. To ORD, I like MX's schedules better than its competitors'.

If I have to choose only one, I would say that, for me, AM works best because of its combination of miles, timetables and onboard service, with MX a very, very close second (I am also a Frecuenta and AAdvantage f.f., albeit with much less mileage).
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

I think that this forum, as well as many others, are under the influence of some nacionalism. That's inevitable for sure.

If you are Mexican, you will prefer AM or MX.

If you are American, you will prefer AA or CO.

No excuses for that, like I'm a member of the frequent flyer program of this or that company.

Trying to be impartial, if you are a member of a f.f. program, and you're loyal to that company (even if it doesn't have the best service, or the best rate) I bet you'll flying such company. Just because later or sooner you will be compensated by that program.

Try to loyal to one f.f. program is noble, and the right thing. Even if, as I state before, it can offer you the best service, the best schedule or the most beautiful flight attendants whatsoever...

Airlines that I fly.....

MX - Got free tickets!
6A - Got free tickets!
JR - Got free tickets too!
AA - Got a friend that gets me free tickets! I will always thank my pal Granpa Guerra (Mx330) for taking me to SXM with a very cheap fare!

When there's no other choice, no flights from MX, 6A or JR to the destination my family needs to fly, we fly CO to IAH.

If you fly US-Mexico West Coast I've heard that AS it's a very nice option!

I've flown to/from Mexico/US in the following airlines ranked by service since I started flying:

UA A320-200
6A B737-200
MX B727-200, A320-200
CO MD-82, B737-300, B737-700
AM DC9-32, MD82, MD83, MD88, MD87, B757-200
AA MD82, MD83, B727-200, B757-200, A300-600R
DL B757-200

This is MY experience, I'm sure opinions and experiences vary from person to person.

My priorities are changing; up until sometime ago:

1. Allegro was my premier choice. Had plenty of tickets for free (they're out of business now and I still have more than 15 passes left to be used for both scheduled and charter).  Sad
2. Continental. Great fares at their website.
3. Mexicana. Because of their FF program and because I get free tickets from a friend; Also because the VTP (all inclusive travel plans) are often cheaper than buying "air only".
4. AeroMexico. My best buddy is a F/A there and gets me passes.
5. Alaska. One of my best girl friends works there and gets me passes.

Now the number one will be AVIACSA !!! and I'm frigging' happy for that!
