This is an easy question -- MIA.

In fact, AA has the worst hub facilities (ORD, STL, DFW, MIA and SJU) of any major USA-based airline.

I WOULD HAVE TO SAY, THE WORST MAJOR AIRPORT WAS PROBABLY THE OLD ATHENS INTNL AIRPORT(ELLINIKON) IN ATHENS GREECE. THIS WAS THE LEAST PASSENGER FRIENDLY OF ALL AIRPORTS I HAVE TRAVELLED THROUGH.

My vote goes to NRT! I have connect twice through that disaster! Not enough seats. Scary food outlets at high prices. NO ROOM for y class pax. Two hour plus waits for customs. If I have to connect in Asia ICN is the ONLY way to connect. Beautiful new facilities with lots of room and good food options.

the worst ive been through is either LHR or FCO.LHR is very big, with lots of aircraft and airlines, but the problem is getting where you need to go.FCO is just plain confusing.I could not go anywhere.then theres security!there were several metal detectors, and 20 lines of hundreds of people behind it.Both are horribly confusing.

I'll agree with one of Espion007's nominations - LHR (which, for me, is the overall winner in this category).

In South America, I'd nominate GRU, I actually like GIG... in North America I'd probably say either MIA or ATL, but it really would be a difficult choice... in Asia, I'd say that BKK takes the cake...

Happy contrails,

IAD can be pretty hard to work through, it is not exactly chaotic, but just a load of work with the shuttles and the connections and that stuff...

LHR...well...pretty...i dunno...not too good experience, but to be honest, i was there after a 24hrs trip, 5 more to go, 3 hrs waiting time...not the best conditions...i would like to give it a new chance...will do soon...

DFW is by far the absolute worst. Not only is the airport a disaster to get around, it is just about all AA. It is almost as if AA designed their livery to blend in with the airport.

For those who complain about MIA, I live in the FLL area, and on occasion do fly out of MIA. At least out of MIA, you see a great variety of aircraft.

Not just the airport itself, it's having to pay a "turnpike" fee when taking a cab even if one does not take the MassPike

Miami, Miami, Miami......although the terminal for Delta and USAirways is nice and usually quiet (simply becuase it is at the far end of the airport), the rest of the airport is pure chaos and hassle. Not a great place to either begin or end a trip.

DFW is the worst airport in the U. S. of A. The entire premise of the semi-circle terminal design is flawed. The locals wanted to drive right up to the departure gate. Great idea until the return flight docks at the opposite end of the horseshoe. Pity the poor connecting passengers who may have to trek across a highway if an Eagle jet is involved.

The spread out eateries make for slim pickings if you're in a hurry and want something close to the gate.

The men's rooms resemble some old filthy gas station on its best day.

Waiting for a gate upon arrival is normal AA procedure. One time, we waited over 1 hour when gates were clearly available.

The new people mover and international terminal may be just enough to move DFW off the bottom of my list.

I think SFO is the worst, although I have not been back since WN dropped service and they were remodeling, maybe it improved.

I don't understand all the DFW rants, my parents live in Southlake and I find the airport very convenient to get in and out of.

I don't think MEM is so bad either. The brick in the gate areas is a bit dated, but the concourses are wide and there is food to be had inside of security. I have not noticed any strange odors, but then again I am used to living in the southern US and public places do tend to get very musty in the summertime when the A/C is on 24/7.
Firings, if well done, are good for employee morale.

I'm surprised that LGA hasn't been mentioned...it's gotten better, when the FAA decided to pull the slot restrictions on the airport in the summer of 2000, it was simply a nightmare...it's not incredibly bad for an O&D passenger if you can put up with minor (and sometimes not-so-minor) delays, but I pity the passenger who has to either change concourses with American (they control all of D in the CTB, and share C with United, having the nearest gates to security whereas UA has the far end), or change terminals with Delta (the Shuttle flights leave from the Marine Air Terminal, the rest of the flights leave from the Delta/Northwest Terminal)...in both cases, you have to reclear security...for that matter, I don't particularly like any airport where I have to use any sort of train or bus...I prefer to be able to walk from one gate to another, even if they are at two totally opposite ends of the airport, it may be tiring, although an impatient 21-year-old in very good shape can handle the walk, whereas this one is too impatient to take a bus from C to F at Philadelphia, particularly on a tight connection (which generally gets even tighter with the delay-proneness of the airport)

I like ORD, but then I live 30 minutes away. I like airports that are big, sprawling, and congested with people.

STL is a pain if one has to hoof between C and D. But with the AA reductions at STL, that is no longer a problem.

ATL is nice, so long as your flight departs from T.

I like the terminals at BOS. My problem with BOS is that it seems every runway intersects with all of the others. I've landed 15 minutes ahead of schedule many times, but wind up being 5 minutes late into the gate. Why?
Because the pilot has to hold short of every runway waiting for arriving or departing traffic.

FRA is an ongoing construction site since it opened it's now terminal one in the 70's.......

LHR is not exactly fun either with 'bussing' from one terminal to the other

any US airport if you arrive on international flights (immigration queues and luggage claim)

Funny that so many people mentioned MIA, as my whole family hates that airport. I knew there was a reason we drive to MCO from PBI to fly to England (besides that VS flies MIA-LHR, and our family in England is closer to LGW)

But the couple of times I've been there it sucked, and the automobile traffic around it was worse. Of course, I consider Miami to be the epicenter of hell anyway, and avoid the city at all costs (comes down to a bad experience when I moved to the U.S.A. we got robbed on the bus from MIA to our boat... long story)

Thank God for PBI and FLL, or MCO if flying international or WN to SAN

MIA is an old, dated facility without any good food concessions past security, and the security lines can be monstrous.

DFW is also not good because of the difficult to read signage, narrow concourses, and the fact that by the time you spend half of your flight time taxiing. Also, I really hope you like MD-80s since that is about all anyone flies into their anymore, although I suppose there is an occasional B-737/A-320 series plane in there every once in a while.

IAD would be better if they ever got rid of that overgrown bus and replaced it with a more efficient tram system. I always seem to arrive at the bus station just after one left, and I have to wait another ten minutes for the next one, and there is no place to sit waiting for, or on the bus.  Angry

I've read that Moscow - Sheremet'yevo is NOT one of the most logistical well designed, clean and passenger friendly airports in the world. But like I said, I have read it many times but have not been able to judge the situation myself Big thumbs up

Waiting for a gate upon arrival is normal AA procedure. One time, we waited over 1 hour when gates were clearly available.

If that gate is assigned to another plane or flight within the next hour or so, it isn't really an open gate. Some of those gates may be needed for specific flights due to customs capabilities. Not all gates can handle all aircraft types either. Additionally, they may not want to put flights with the same departure time at gates close to each other. If you change that one gate now, other gates will keep getting changed over and over again. Gate change announcements abound, even more pissed off passengers, checked luggage going to the wrong gate and having to be rerouted, catering changed, staffing changed as the staff at that open gate may be on their contractually-required break, etc. Every time they swap gates, there's a lot of factors. Baggage delivery though is a big factor.... several airlines have found a correlation between the number of gate changes and the number of baggage mishandlings.

My vote would be BOM. Most other airports I cant complain about.
Definitely the seediest run down airport I've been in, but then hey, it was preparing you for what was outside the doors. Quite a shock when flying in from SIN. CCU was much nicer.

The old Northwest terminal in DTW, once my little brother and I arrived at one end of the terminal, then had to walk all the way to the other end to catch our connecting flight, then got told our flight was right back where our last one arrived, and then we had to walk all the way back to the other end.

TXL, although I really like this airport a lot in some ways, it really is quite
a shock that this is the major airport for Germany's capital city which has a population of 4 mil. It really is miniscule, I arrived once at 5:00 p and every single gate was full.

VIE, also a great airport in a lot of ways, i.e. connecting flights are very easy, but it is very small, luckily my layovers were realtively short, wouldnt want to get stuck in that sardine can of an airport with all those other transit passengers for too long. Not even enough seats for everyone to sit down on.

LHR, it takes a long time to get to T4 from the rest of the airport, wouldnt have been suprised to end up on the other side of London.

My vote (not surprising) is MIA... old and run down facilities, very poor layout, lack of airconditionin in customs areas, and RUDE RUDE staff. When I flew into MIA this past Friday from CDG, I was shocked at how poorly the airport was run. As our flight deplaned, we were all crammed in this narrow and HOT hallway on the way towards customs, where two security agents where "checking" passports. After 45 minutes of standing nearly on top of each other and security screaming at us to form single file lines, I finally got the customs checkpoints. Fortunately they have seperate lines for US citizens and non-US citizens (which made the ordeal a bit quicker for me), but watching and listening to how the agents treated foreigners was horrible. Joking about their poor english skills right to their face! To finish off an already bad experience, my friend picked me up outside of arrivals. He pulled up to the curb as everyone else was doing when he saw me outside. I walked over to the car and was putting the luggage in the trunk... well he opened the drivers door and came back toward the trunk to help me lift the suitcases in the trunk... and of course a "nice" police officer immediately ran over and handed him a ticket for "leaving the vehicle unattended"... HELLO!? he only got out of the driver's seat and was maybe all of 1 inch from the car! Needless to say, next time I'll fly from FLL to either ATL, JFK or BOS and pick up an international connection there.

im surprised that ATL isnt posted. If your gate changes, you have 5 concourses to choose from, it is the busiest of all of the airports I have visited, it is starting to become dirtier every time I go there, there really is no true spotting windows at the gates, I think that the only sporting plus about ATL is that DL has so many connections, if you miss your one flight, then there is always something to choose from.

LAX without a doubt.

The staff there seem to have an attitude problem.

The queues go on forever, and you queue outside of the terminal by drop off off area in a 200yd queue to clear security.

TSA staff checking backage purposely annoy passengers and lack of them is a joke.
