CO Equipment To OGG

I was just looking around the e-timetable for CO and saw something interesting! I was looking up the equipment to Hawaii and to OGG, Maui, the equipment was EQV which stands for variable equipment. I figured that there are a bunch or flights that are 6 days a week and the equipment would service OGG on the off day but why variable equipment?? They have 3 or 4 listing for flights to places like Mexico when they use different versions of the 37 and at different times, so why wouldn't they do the same for the OGG flight? Do they not know what equipment it will be? I'm sure they do but why withhold the info? Anyway, what I really want to know is what equipment they will use this summer?

EQV mean Equipment varies. So it could be a 764 one day than a 777 the next day

You were probably looking at CO's direct roundtrip from EWR-OGG (flights 49/48) with a stop in IAH. The reason that it says EQV is because the equipment type for the flight changes with the stop in IAH. The IAH-OGG leg is always operated with a 764, but the EWR-IAH is not. Since the flight number stays the same but the aircraft type changes, they list it as EQV. It is often a 752 to a 764, although this isn't always the case.

On a side note, a 777 would not be able to go from OGG-IAH off of Maui's 7000 foot runway. LAX/SFO maybe, but IAH is simply too far.

Another possibility is that what they mean by equipment varies is actually the configuration, CO has two configurations for their 767-400s.

A high density configuration they use for flights to Hawaii and Japan from Guam, and then the European configuration for trans-Atlantic flights.

I know that there are different A/C on that route but why not post the type of plane. The could fir 767,764 in the box. They fit 2 and 3 A/C in the equip. box.
If it is as Cory1688 said, why wouldn't the flights be two different numbers? It is not a 1 stop flight if you must get off and switch planes. A 1 stop to my understanding was a same plane stop. I have never heard of one flight number being used for 2 different A/C; only on one A/C making stops.

You do have a point with keeping a flight as 1 number. If an airline plans to make you switch planes, then the flights should have two different numbers.

However, I believe that it is a marketing thing to make people think that they are on one flight, when in fact they have to switch planes entirely (and often walk about 1/2 mile going through IAH).

767=767400 Micronesia Configuration 20J/236Y 256 seats total
764=767400 35J/200Y 235 seats total

u will know ur on a Micronesia 767400 if ur ship numbers are 062, 063, 064, 065 or 066 all others have the 35/200 configuration.

One flight number for what really is two separate flights is a "trick" called a change of gauge (COG) flight. It has the benefit of showing with non-stop and direct flights in availability.

Thankfully, ATA schedules none of these.

They've had them before. CHI-HNL has stopped at LAX with a change of planes (B738 to B753 two years ago)... it'll be one-stop / same plane via SEA soon if it isn't already.
