AN ALASKA AIRLINES MD-80 HAS CRASHED INTO THE PACIFIC APPROX 10 MILES FROM THE CALI. COAST. HEADING TO SFO FROM PUERTO VALERTA IT REQUESTED AN IMMEDIATE LANDING AT LAX. IT WENT DOWN INTO THE OCEAN BELLY -UP. AAPROX. 60 PASS. ON BOARD AT TIME OF IMPACT. NO SURVIVORS FOUND.


I COULD BE WRONG WITH ANY OF MY INFO, SO PLEASE CORRECT ME IF SO. I AM RETURNING TO THE T.V. NOW TO GET UPDATES

Well, Dan Rather just said they DIDIN"T know if it was a 737 or a MD-80, they are still NOT Sure!

LOOK DAN RATHER:

I LIVE 5 MINS. FROM THE COAST, POINT MUGO. EVERYONE AROUND HERE THAT KNOWS A LITTLE MORE THAN DAN RATHER WHO IS SOMEWHERE BACK EAST, SAY THAT IT WAS AN MD-80. INCLUDING THE COAST GUARD. ALSO, LOCAL NEWS AROUND HERE SAYS IT WAS CONFIRMED BY THE FAA AN MD-80

It was an MD-83, delivered may 1992, #1995. It had approx 15,000 cycles and 26,000 hours on it. last c check january 1999, last a-check january 2000, last service check yesterday. registration N963AS. yesterdays service included a changed lightbulb, fixing 2 coffee makers, fixing a galley door hinge, tray table, and armrest, and repairing a broken lav. that's about all the info i got.

It has been confirmed during the Alaska Airlines press conference that it is an MD-80 with 83 passengers on board and 5 crew members.

The plane was an MD-83 built in 1992.
