Best Smoking Lounge In Which Airport?

Thu Apr 01, 2004 6:15 pm

Last week I had the pleasure of waiting for my flight, in a beautifully designed lounge, with a whiskey in hand while smoking a cigarette?! You might be surprised to hear that it was not in any airline lounge but rather at JNB's smoking lounge.
Just when most other airports either send their smokers to the farest end of the airport to a small choky and smoogy room (if they haven't banned smoking in their airport all together) here comes JNB with a beautiful concept.
This has to be the nicest smoking lounge in any airport. Comes with full waiter service, a bar, wide TV's, and someone calling out departures of flights. The place is very nicely decorated with falling curtains, beige and oak wood. VERY VERY NICE.
I think it is sponsored by DUNHILL.
So are there any other beautiful smoking lounges out there?

LAS Is my vote for best place to smoke. There is a room surrounded by glass where you can smoke and play slot machines.

JetBlue 15 -

I think the glass enclosed smoking areas at LAS are in the new "D" gate area and possibly in the concourse used by Southwest Airlines. I know that concourse A has an actual room for smoking...open the door, go in, have a quickie, open the door and leave....the place is usually packed.

How many U.S. airports allow smoking at all.....I know that there is NO place to smoke in the entire Detroit Metro complex.

I know that SLC has a smoking lounge.

Does anyone know if LAX still has the outside smoking areas?

That place is bad, but the ones with the slots are great. Another place that you can smoke anywhere of course besides outside my terminal at 6 JFK

JNB lounge is nice. Spent a few hours there last year.

The lounge in the United terminal in DEN was nice when
I was there a few years ago.
I did not forget...I just misplaced the thought...

But in DEN, JNB amd some others aren't you spoose to purchase a drink? None of them are real free smoking rooms. IAD use to have two in the UA wing, but last time I was there one was closed. Anyone know if both are open again?

LAX has a great smoking area in Terminal 3. It's outdoors and has pretty plants and trees and nice benches. I'm not too sure about the other terminals' smoking facilities though.

TPA's two most recent airsides have..excuse me..had the very nice smoking lounges..Airside A the best. You could watch the planes take off and land and see your gate at the same time. Airside E, I believe has two and again, close to your gates. The state voted and now NO smoking anywhere inside a public building. Louis Miller, TPA's exec, is working out a way to have outdoor but covered smoking areas at all the airsides. Airside C, which I believe is being built now for WN, WILL have an outdoor smoking area.

Glad to hear LAS does as I am heading there in 2 weeks on WN.

TonyBurr...you are correct about the smoking lounge at DEN. Although they do require that you purchase a drink, there is no minimum that you must buy, and the prices (at least when I was through there last year) were very reasonable. Something like $1 for a soda or bottled water and $2.50 for a beer. Lots of TV's, big windows that look out over the ramp area and plenty of seating. The ventilation was good, too.  Smokin cool

As for LAS, smoking is only allowed in the designated smoking lounges...not everywhere in the terminal....but there are lounges spread out all through the airport.

Cheers!

ElectraBob,

you would be surprised to hear that there is a place to smoke in Detroit metro. I stopped there cause i needed a cigarette badly. It kinda shocked me that it was there. I cannot remember the actual name of it, but it is a bar located across from the main WorldClub just past security checkpoint. Infact, if you look up to the second floor you will see Luftansa's lounge.

There were reports that the Bulldog coffeeshop chain would open a coffeeshop at Schiphol. Haven't heard anything more about that lately. If it happens, that would surely have to qualify as the best smoking spot in an airport! Suggestion for a slogan: "High before you fly".

The smoking lounges in the D gates at LAS are definitely the some of the best, they are clean and relatively smoke free.

But another top vote getter for me is MHT. Always clean. Great view of the ramp.

Here one I find ironic, RDU has no smoking lounges. Its Raleigh- Durham, as in Tobacco Road, Bull Durham, Duke (yes that's how the Duke family made their money and were able to turn Trinity college into Duke University) and American Tobacco etc... Yet no smoking in Durham's airport.

I'm not saying good or bad for RDU, just, you would think if any where.....

I always used to remember that FRA used to stink of smoke. Is it totally smoke free now? I certainly hope so.
