A few points:
-There will be a major renovation of at least some areas this spring/summer
-there will be tile put in on the floor at the counter area, at least near CO
area in the springtime.
-Concourse C will be getting new carepting in the spring, in the main walkway
-I agree about a walkway from the counter to D, but when when D was built, CO
told us there wasn't enough local traffic to D to justify such an expensive project-and it would cost a lot of $$ that neither CO
or the City really has right now.
-A walkway on C wouldn't work. 1. The floor wasn't built strong enough for it, and 2. The concourse isn't wide enough to really handle a walkway. C would have to be widened a good 20 feet or so to the west, and the floor reinforced for any type of walkway. That's not going to happen.
is paying the price of years of neglect from the City. The city allowed the airport to become surrounded in the 40's and 50's; they didn't see the jet age comeing in the 50's and 60's; they didn't grasp the importance of hub airlines in the 70's; and they constantly fought their main carrier in the late 80's and the 90's.
Despite having better leadership at City Hall, and running the airport, there is no quick fixes to Hopkins.
I think if the city is going to tear down the IX
Center in the next decade, they should seriously consider putting a new, passenger friendly terminal on the spot where IX
now sits. There's enough room out there to put in a modern terminal, parking, another Hotel, the rental car areas, etc. And then where the Terminal is, could be made a new, modern cargo area. But I doubt anyone in CLE
is that smart, unfortunately.
