SAS To Hong Kong In '98

Fri Apr 02, 2004 7:43 pm

Last night, I got a nostalgic, so I put on one of the Kai Tak videos that I have - and that got me thinking.

What was the flightnumbers for SAS' CPH-HKG-CPH flights & what were the arrival & departure times? I think that SAS was one of the few european carriers to fly the outbound leg from HKG in daytime (all others seems to love the midnight departure & early morning arrival).

If not mistaken, the flight numbers were SK991/992. Mid-morning arrival at HKG and departure by lunchtime.

Thanks for the info - looking at the pics of SAS at Kai Tak, it looks like the lunchtime departure sounds right. So it would arrive at CPH at around 4-5 PM and depart at around 6 PM.

I figure it would have taken around 11 hours each way (since it's around 12 hours coming from LHR).

I believe an SAS manager said last yr said they're considering returning to Hong Kong over the next few years or something similar.

Can any of you folks in the know shed any light on this? Any developments?

Lufthansa still has a departure time around lunch. They get into HKG a little after ten in the morning.

Daytime departure to Europe --
KLM only runs a noon time nonstop to Amsterdam as well from Hong Kong.

It was quite a nice sight to see the Boeing 767-300ER landing and taking off at Kai Tak.
