I like "CFIT." Controlled flight into terrain. Also:

"TRACON." Terminal Radar Approach Control

"ARTCC" Air Route Traffic Control Center

"AFSS" Automated Flight Service Station

"ARSR" Air Route Surveillance Radar

FAR: Federal Aviation Regulation
PFC: Passenger Facility Charge
AIP: Airport Improvement Program
ASOS: Airport Surface Observation System
ILS: Instrument Landing System
IFR: Instrument Flight Rules
VFR: Visual Flight Rules
AC: Advisory Circular
AMASS: Airport Movement Area Safety System

NOTAM = Notices to Airmen
HIWAS = Hazardous Inflight Weather Advisory Service
EFAS = En Route Flight Advisory Service (aka Flight Watch - and its the word SAFE backwards  Smile )
RAIL = Runway Alignment Indicator Lights
VORTAC = VOR and TACAN colocated
WX = Weather
TEMPO = Tempoary
VICE = Instead/Versus
ASOS = Automated Surface Observing System
AWOS = Automated weather Observing System
AMOS = Automatic Meteorological Observing System
ATIS = Automated Terminal Information System
BERM - Snowbanks containing Earth/Gravel

And there are many more  Smile

Was the original intent of this thread to post alternative (joke) meanings to official acronymns, or to post every official (non-joke) acronym one can think of?

If it's the latter, maybe someone can cut-and-paste the entire AIM or FAA contractions manual in a single message, so we can save some bandwidth..  Big grin
