Buying UAL Simulator Time

Sun Apr 04, 2004 10:00 am

Is it possible to buy time in the UA flight sims here in DEN? If so, how?

Thanks

Yes, through the Avsim 2004 Convention at least:

Hmmm, that is way in September, but I still may go. I was looking for this month when a friend comes down.

Typical price per hour per simulator is $200 per hour...
With instructor...
But you can share the cost among the 3 of you...
Pilot, co-pilot and flight engineer for a 747 or DC-10 simulator...

Is there a website or something? I searched ual.com, but found nothing. Anyone interested in splitting?

Dear United4everDEN -
xxx
I do not have the information handy for DENTK at Stapleton.
Call (305) 555-1212 and request the number for the UAL Training Center.
Ask for their "Contract Training" desk.
xxx
There are some flight schools in Denver (C.A.E. Training...?) who also lease time w/ UAL simulators.
Their prices must be slightly over the price you could get if you deal direct with UAL.
xxx
Suggest you do not go "cold turkey" with 2 buddies in such simulator. Their best deals might be with the 727 simulators they still have, but you should be at least familiar with the basic cockpit controls before the clock starts. To learn where a switch is at $200/hour is a little expensive.
xxx
Further, you have to probably need to be investigated for security reasons. Having a pilot licence would make it easier. Try to find a pilot who flew or is retired + familiar with the 727 to brief you how to fly one.

747Skipper: (305) is a Miami area code. For Denver, it would be (303)
And the winner for best actress is....REESE WITHERSPOON for 'Walk the Line'!!!!!!!!

Sorry - accustomed to write 305 as I am often in MIA...
Left the USA 12 years ago... back then USA area codes were easier.
Correct, DEN is 303.
xxx
By the way many pilot magazine advertise type rating training schools.
The ones in Denver certainly lease simulators from UAL.
The BEST DEAL -I think, is 727, since you can share cost for 3 seats.
I.e. - I can get a 737 simulator in MIA (PanAm Academy) for $175/hour.
But they only accept to sell 2 hour blocks of time
And that is (737) for 2 seats only. And my beers for debriefing are - expensive...  Big grin
xxx
Moderators - this does NOT constitute an advertisement.
I would not make a penny on this, just the beers...
IF I did charge normal rate per hour for me, it is $60/hour in simulators...

I'm a retired space engineer, who loves airliners. I've dreamed for years of sitting in the left seat of a simulator for 30 minutes or so with a pilot to give me hints---just for fun. I once did this in an early Space Shuttle simulator, and failed miserably !!

Are there any 777, or 744 simulators available near LAX where I could have such fun ?

Simulators are in LGB (Douglas airplanes) - Flight Safety operates these.
Simulators for AA are between DFW and FTW (Euless, TX).
Simulators for UA (Denver Stapleton - old airport).
Simulators for NW (Minneapolis, near Egan) - operated by PAIFA.
Simulators for DL (Atlanta GA)
Simulators in MIA (Pan American Flight Academy - PAIFA) and AeroService.
Simulators in SEA (Boeing)
Some other locations also have simulators, but do not know exactly.

United4Ever-

Looking at your age (16-20), I would be stunned if UAL or any airline just leased you SIM time. A Flight Simulator is not a toy or something just to try out. They cost millions of dollars and are normally booked solid 24hrs a day with real flight crews working on training and ratings.

I remember reading years ago (pre 9/11) in an NY Times article that UA did in fact sell sim time but it was ridiculously expensive...a Do-328 sim was like $600/hr up to a 744 sim which was pushing $2,000 an hour...

I don't know what the rules are for renting time at the UAL Flight Training Center but here are a couple of links to help ya out.

http://www.fti737.com/profile.html
This one is not for United however they use the UAL simulators and training facilities.

http://www.unitedsvcs.com/html/buissupp_flight.html
This one is United's Corp. Training Site.

Good luck, let me know how it goes I would like to know if they will let you go play around in there!
