More Interest Of US Airlines In Mexico

Sun Apr 04, 2004 11:43 pm

More CO flights to Mexico. 365 departs each week to 24 different points in Mexico.

This is definitely good for Mexico, but for AM and MX?

Good news for airline's customers,Hugo.Competition between airlines is always good.
By the way... Air Madrid will fly to SJO.-This mean other airline, and extend options  Smile If this Air Madrid's flight from MAD to San José de CR have success Iberia could fly to SJO non-stop again, unless 1 or 2 times per week.

Hugo,

That sounds really cool. It's really funny, since Monclova doesn't even have direct flights to Mexico City (MEX) but I understand that small city in northern Mexico has much more business and economic relations with Texas than with the rest of Mexico, so this new service really makes sense.

CO is very aggressive and is using its regional affiliate Continental Express to start new routes from its IAH hub to unserved Mexican destinations. The location of IAH is fantastic because it allows CO to send r.j.'s to many business and leisure cities South of the border. In addition to this flight to Monclova, there are new services to TLC and OAX from IAH. And I believe 2 daily flights between SAT and MEx using r.j.'s. It will be interesting to see how CO does in its SAT-MEx flights because MX has always been the dominant carrier in this route.

I don't know if this is true but I read here in a.net that while CO is the U.S. airline with the most flights and destinations in Mexico, AA is the U.S. airline with the largest number of passengers flown between the two countries. The reason is that AA operates basically mainline planes (with very few AA Eagle flights) and, therefore, it has bigger passenger capacity than CO, which uses a lot of CO Express aircraft. Let's see if CO's new routes and its codeshares with DL and AM allow it to surpass AA, or if AA's alliance with MX will consolidate it as the leader.

Eddie and Hugo,

Thanks for your welcoming greetings! It's my first day in a.net and I'm already enjoying it quite a lot.

The IAH-OAX route sounds excellent! That would make OAX airport become international!!! I think OAX is a very profitable market. That city in the south is very known in Europe and the US as one of the most beautiful cities in Mexico. The Mexican Tourist Bureaus here in Europe are promoting the state of Oaxaca a lot and I think that eventually the amount of international visitors to that state will grow fastly in a near future. Furthermore, the city itself is growing a lot and this route will be great for Oaxacan businessmen and leisure travellers.

I believe that CO will have very good load factors in its flights to OAX and that, at some point, it will consider switching to a mainline jet. At least that's what I hope. Let's see!

I also think IAH-QRO and IAH-HUX would be very feasible. Do you guys know something about eventual plans for north-of-the-border routes from those cities?

That EMB certainly has brought a lot of expansion to Continental, specially to Mexico.

How long before we start seeing something like that with Mexican carriers???. AM finally will be getting (they might have it already) the first EMB145 though.
