Best Buy On Board Meals

Mon Apr 05, 2004 5:00 am

With buy-on-board meals being so popular these days with airlines, which airline do feel offers the best buy-on-board meals?

My first Buy on Board experience was a rather negative one. I was on a United A319 going from Denver to Boston and it was one of the new Buy on Board Flights. The flight attendants rolled the cart to Row 6 and started selling the meals, by the time they got to 8D they had run out of meals altogether and they only sold them to two-thirds of the passengers. As I was in Row 10, I was S.O.L.

I've had USAirways' and America West's buy on board. I liked the Vie de France meal on US much better. I think it was warm Ham and Brie on a Croisant, quite tasty. HP's was a bit more bland, but $3 cheaper. I miss HP's old meals like their cheese enchiladas. They were better than some Mexican places here in AZ!

I've not had any problems with meals selling out on either airline. Last flight was a completely full A320 on HP and I was sitting in the second to last row. They still had my choice.

Doesn't LSG SkyChefs "provide" (is the vendor) the meals to most of the airlines? And if so, shouldn 't the quality be pretty much the same?

Yes, but it sure seems as if the airlines that offer buy-on-board have different products. Maybe I am wrong about that.
