Upgrade On US Airways

Mon Apr 05, 2004 5:59 am

Hey guys,
A friend of mine is flying from Richmond, VA to Savannah, GA on April 8 and returning April 12. I was just wondering if there is anybody here working for US Airways in Richmond, VA is it possible to get him an upgrade to business class? He is flying 737's and A319 for his segments connecting in Charlotte both ways. I'd appreciate if somebody could help out.
Thanks.

Are you sure about the 737 and A319? USAir almost only uses RJs in RIC. But then again, I may be wrong. Everytime I am at RIC spotting, all I see are RJ's. With the exception being the cargo, and a DL 732.

Go3Team,
I checked with my friend again. The RIC-CLT flight is operated by A319 and his CLT-SAV flight operated by a 737-300.
Trekster,
I bet an upgrade to Business on a Transatlantic would be a nice birthday present  Smile

Trekster: Enjoy the flight and the trip. I assume the flight is on an A330, my cousin loved her flight from Rome to PHL on one. Vegas is one heck of a town, just don't have too much fun  Big grin

All of US's 6 daily flights to CLT are on the A319.

Overall, US at RIC is 8 turboprops, 16 RJs, and 8 mainline jets.

RIC-BWI 3x J41
RIC-BOS 3x ERJ
RIC-CLT 6x 319
RIC-LGA 7x ERJ
RIC-PHF 1x DH3
RIC-PHL 2x D38 2x CRJ 1x 319 1x 320
RIC-PIT 1x J41 1x DH8 4x ERJ

Guess I am not around when they come in or leave out. Ever since 9/11 passenger departures have dropped considerably out of RIC.

You wont have much chance getting an upgrade unless Economy is very busy.

US Airways poilcy is to only offer upgrades to there Dividend Mile members, and you must usually have to have a Preferred or Chairman grade Dividend membership in order to qualify.

I flew with US from LGW to LAX via PHL on way out and via CLT on way home 2 weeks ago and the very helpful check-in staff at LGW did enquire for me. I am a normal Dividend Miles member and said the airline would not allow me to upgrade, the claerk also mentioned that the "grade" of my ticket was not in my favour either as I had purchased a restricted fare. (Cheapest Ticket Available)

I wasn't dissappointed as I didn't expect to be upgraded in the first place, but you never know unless you ask!

If your flying on A330 economy is excellent, good legroom, p@ssport system, food not bad and comfy seats.

I would recommend sitting towards the rear - 32-35 rows are as good as near galley and get a very personal service from the cabin crew. Also the aircraft narrows towards the rear only 7 accross.

No problem, I just upgraded your friend.

Seriously, this is a little demanding to just expect someone to do this for you without knowing you or your friend.

I noticed you are a "Student majoring in International Relations and Diplomatic Studies." I think you have a little more studying to do.

Hey Tripseven,
I appreciate your personal comment but I don't think you have the expertise to express yourself vis-a-vis my diplomatic skills.
I think your 41 posts in a period of over 3 years is a clear indication of the need to write less and read more.
My friend is a Preferred Dividend member and if you read GilesDavies post you will understand that people like him often get upgraded on US Airways flights. Since he is probably not the only Preferred Member with US Airways he wanted me to ask whether it would be possible to get upgraded. Because he is not a member of this forum I submitted the post under my name. This does not mean it's a reflection of the way I would do things.

If he's a Preferred member, then he should have no trouble with an upgrade. US Airways gives free domestic upgrades to its Preferred members. Just have him call the Preferred reservations number and they'll be able to put him in the upgrade queue.

US gives free upgrades to its preferred memebers on all domestic and caribbean flights. On European flights, it would not be free. However, you can ask for it at the gate, sure wouldn't hurt, or you can purchase an Envoy upgrade.

If your friend is a preferred Dividend member then he should be familiar with US's upgrade policies and not require third-party assistance for this...
