Hey Desert dweller, I'm assuming you'll be flying from Montreal.

I have flown on Egyptair so many times over the last 10 years, and I think they are really good and have improved so much in the last 2 years. I know you would expect an Egyptian to defend his own national carrier, but I can assure you you will really enjoy flying with them.

I have flown on all their aircraft types except for their A321s, so I feel that I can judge them pretty well. The airline offers very good leg-room on their aircraft especially the 777s (which I assume you would fly if you come from North America (NYC/Montreal)). Connecting flights to BEY are usually with A320s, which again are very comfortable to fly.

As for services, the airline has one of the highest passenger to crew ratios among all airlines. The stewards are very attentive and all speak English (as well as Arabic of course). The one thing you won't complain about if the food. They have a choice of meals and the portions are big, so you won't get hungry (and you could always ask for seconds).

As for safety, the airline has improved dramatically since the incident in New York. Since then they have opened up a new engineering hanger at CAI (the largest in the Middle East) where the airline preforms maintenance on its own aircraft and does third party work.

I can assure you that you would love to fly with them

I just searched through Carsurvey.com’s 2004 reviews of MS, and have quoted some the replies. I did not find one bad thing to quote. MS truly sounds like an unfairly misjudged airline, for the reality seems very good indeed. Public perception is of wariness and uncertainty, but the reviews evidently prove that these preconceptions are false and flawed. I would book MS - and I would certainly have a very nice and comfortable trip indeed.

---

“Even though the A300-600 [of MS[ was an old aircraft I was very surprised that its interior was maintained very well.”

“The seats [of the A300-600] were very comfortable and the cabin noise was quite low.”

“An hour into the flight breakfast was served which was 2 sausages, mashed potatoes, bread and tea which I thought was more fulfilling than BA's breakfast.”

“Most of Egyptair's terminal was been upgraded,”

‘Even though the flight was packed we managed to taxi out [at CAI] on-time.’

“Horus class [MS’ business class] seats were so comfortable.”

“Straight after take off snack boxes were given out that had a sandwich, cake, croissant and yogurt. For lunch, menus were given out and I chose a delicious fish meal.”

“Attention by the stewards was excellent as they kept going around seeing what passengers wanted.”

‘As we disembarked [at LHR] female passengers were presented with flowers.’

“All in all flying with the airline was an excellent experience throughout. The cabin crew are very hardworking and made the flights a delight. I would definitely fly with them again.”

“I wasn't sure what to expect with Egyptair, but it was a really good flight.”

“The seats were nice and comfortable with excellent legroom for economy class. The meal was normal, but the portions were quite big. The cabin crew were very helpful.”

“The seats [on a 320] were very comfortable and the legroom was good.”

“For lunch we were served steak with rice, salad, bread, chocolate cake and juice which were very nice.”

“Soon after take-off dinner was served which similar to the meal on the previous leg [as above], but with bigger portions.”

“The stewards on the flight were amazing as they seemed to be working the whole time with a smile on their faces.”

“Jeddah Airport was very packed so it took a couple of hours before we claimed our bags, so the airline staff were kind enough to go around and serve tea and sandwiches.”

“A very pleasant experience, and we had no delays despite the hajj season.”

“This was a really good experience [on the 320].”

“The aircraft was a new A321 (SU-GBU) which was clean and the legroom was pretty good. The food and service by the cabin crew were of equal high standard.”

I last flew with MS in circa 1995 and it was a pleasurable experience.

Got to try out their A320, A300-600, 707.

All in all, a very professional experience.

On the A320, I lost my book "Anne Frank" and didn't realize it until I got to Cairo.

Amazingly...one of the F/As had picked it up and they sent it to my hotel (el gezirah).

On the 707 (CAI-Luxor) i was thrilled to be going on a 707 because I like them so much and it was pretty good experience surprisingly, nothing special but definitely didn't feel the aircraft's age.

On the A300-600 it was Aswan-Cairo and I was seated next to the emergency door and for some reason I had gotten the impression that it would open if there was a sudden depressurization, maybe I read it. Anyone i told the F/A and she moved us which was nice.

On the A320 back to Istanbul they showed Mr. Bean which I was very pleased about.

Definitely would fly MS again, Horus says that they have improved a lot in the last 2 years, if I go to Egypt again (very much hope that I will soon) it will definitely be on MS.

Besides, MS are my initials!

To save CDN $ 800, I would anyday take MS over BA-AF-KL etc...i dont know why there is a huge gap amongst MS and the Euros...seems strange but maybe because now is peak season for Lebanon so the lower fares in Eco class have already been sold out etc.

Have u tried seeing the fares of LX from YUL to BEY as well as LH??? One more cheap option can be the AC-TK combo YUL-LHR-BA), Turkey">IST-BEY !!!

I have continuously heard good things about MS myself.

My grandmother likes them, and my uncle who flies between Amman and Cairo often always chooses Egyptair over Royal Jordanian. He hates Royal Jordanian.

My grandmother will fly on Egyptair on most of her flights except when she wants to fly from Cairo to Beirut. She will always take MEA.

When she flies from Tunis to Cairo, she takes either Tunisair or Egyptair.

All the western European airlines are quite expensive to Beirut in the summer because demand is much much much higher and airlines are never able to keep up with the demand. So they jack up prices like crazy.

This is ESPECIALLY true with Air France and MEA on the Paris - Beirut.

So I don't blame you for wanting to fly on Egyptair to get a better fare.

Egyptair just increased Beirut from 6x weekly CAI-BEY-CAI on A320 and 1x weekly (Wednesday) CAI-ALY-BEY-ALY-CAI 735 service to 10x weekly CAI-BEY-CAI A320 and 1x weekly ALY-BEY-ALY A320. This is quite a big capacity increase which should make connecting much easier for you as there are 2 flights on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Here is Egyptair's new Beirut schedule:

Horus,

Do you know if Egyptair flies the high-density A320s on CAI-BEY or ALY-BEY or if they fly the new low-density A320s for higher yielding routes?

i still say if you're going to a new country it is a nice idea to try that foreign country's carrier.

The only plus to LX other than maybe the price is the chance of an MD-11 into Cairo.

MS 777s have 3-4-2 layout (correct me if I am mistaken) so this can give you the best of both worlds. If you are a party of four you can ride in the middle. If it is two of you, you can sit on one side. If you are 3, then the other side.

Of course I would also suggest MEA but that is AF from YUL and you said they are more expensive than the rest.

BA, MS use their high density configured A320s on flight MS711 and the lower density on MS713. But don't be misguided and think that the higher density one is cramped, it is still very comfortable.

AirxLiban, LX have already introduced their A343s to CAI instead on their MD-11s last month.

It's good to see that everyone has had positive experiences with Egyptair and like I said before, if any of you need any informations, just ask  Smile

Horus,

How were you able to find out which flights use the high-denstiy and low-density A320s?

Also, what about MS709 (Alexandria - Beirut)?

BA,
How did you get both CAI-BEY and ALY-BEY to show up in one shot on Amadeus?

BA

The A320s used on the ALY-BEY-ALY are the high-density aircraft (144-which is still more comfortable than those used by European and American carriers).

As for the CAI-BEY-CAI, even though MS713 flights are scheduled to use the A320s with lower capacity, it is possible there could be a last minute change for the higher capacity jets if demands warrants so.

This sort of information is not known publicly.

Airxliban

Yeah, the 777's Y class seating is configured 3+4+2
