Delta Service To IND

Mon Apr 05, 2004 11:19 pm

IND has service to many and most hubs in the US..one of the hubs that i noticed that are not served from IND is SLC. Delta already serves ATL and CVG from IND. WOuldn't SLC be a good move considering they would be the only airline to serve SLC?

SLC would work well with what STL has on the route, 2x a day CR7. Look for RJ's to constitute almost all of the growth out of SLC and IND probably isn't too far off in the future.

True. I just have wondered why Delta did not serve SLC as of this point. I think it would also give SW a run for their money.

IND to SLC may be too far for an RJ. Longest DL RJ segment now is DFW-ONT, at 1189 miles. IND-SLC would be 1355 miles.

I'm almost positive CVG-BIL (CR7) will be 1301 soon be the longest DL Connection flight. 1355 is well within the range of a both CRJ-200s and CRJ-700s.

These are all surpassed by DFW-OAK.

I think a big question will be- can they be competitive with a CRJ on this route. I'm assuming most people flying from IND will be connecting in SLC. when they connect they'll probably be getting on another CRJ. with the higher seat mile costs of CRJs, I would question whether DL could make money competing without a premium cabin against other majors flying mainline equipment on 1 or both segemnts (or their own flights through DFW and CVG)
When in doubt, one B pump off
