CUN is not overrated as someone said. It all depends on what you are looking for. Everybody knows that if you're planning a romantic honeymoon in March/April, most probably it will end up not being very satisfactory because of the springbreakers. The true is that springbreak is a great help for us as they keep the industry busy and the hotel rooms booked in what we call "low season". Period.
The area served by CUN
airport (just part of the macro complex) comprehends Cancun and The Mayan Riviera. With more than 60,000 hotel rooms (rough estimate) and several options along the 70/80 miles of resorts THERE IS
something for everyone; all inclusive, spa/rehab centers, budget, ecological, eco-archeological, even exclusive resorts for honeymooners, those that like to be in the nude and even for those with overweight problems! So, whatever your preference of vacationing is, most probably you will find it in the Cancun area.
Cancun's Hotel Zone is a strip of 14 miles with both economic and super luxurious hotels, shopping malls, mayan ruins, restaurants and entertainment. A bit too noisy for many, right in the dot for others.
This must be in terms of O&D... because LHR/LGW offer nearly triple the amount of annual scheduled seats to the USA than CUN does. I could hardly see charters making up for that disparity.
It surely is in terms of O&D as the number of connections in CUN
is very limited and often it is to nearby destinations such as Cozumel and then Merida. You'll be surprised of how many flights CUN
receive from Europe daily and the amount of charter operators who, apart from Orlando, absolutely ignore the US.
Pilotcoex: You are right. Cabo San Lucas (Los Cabos) and Cozumel are more relaxed than CUN
, but the beach is absolutely breathtaking !
Cheers from Cancun....
There are no stupid questions... just stupid people!
