on the 17th- maybe I'll end up seeing it while I'm there.
Adding to the L-1011 stories, Delta's L10s (the only ones I was ever on) were a thrill to fly for me, usually because it meant we were going to Puerto Rico. I remember the low growl of the engines when they started & were throttled up...flying on one was sorta like meeting a celebrity when I was younger because of how excited I would get to go on one. I got to go to the lower galley once & thought that was awesome- an elevator on a plane. Got to take 8 over the years, but it could've been 10:
We were supposed to go to Florida in July 2001. I knew that DL
was parking them at the end of the month & tried to get into MCO
with Delta. There was availability & we were going to take two L10s....one ATL
, the other would be on the last DL
L10 flight. I was in heaven until we called to confirm the reservation & the agent told us that they were being pulled on the 17th. My mom changed the reservations to US & when we got to MCO
on the 24th (I think) & were leaving, I saw one parked at DL
's airside. Needless to say, I was pissed beyond belief, ready to explode & felt like I'd been robbed.
We left Florida on 7/31 & it sucked to know that I was at the same airport where a few hours later, my favorite plane would take one last revenue flight for my favorite airline...
