Midwest Airliines close to deal that would benefit Skyway
Move could double size of regional carrier

Midwest Airlines is close to signing a deal that could more than double the size of its regional carrier, Skyway Airlines, and bring in millions of dollars in revenue.

Midwest officials confirmed that discussions were underway between Skyway and Delta Airlines for Skyway to fly Delta Connection flights from Cincinnati.

"We are hopeful we can come to mutually satisfactory terms," said Jim Rankin, Skyway Airlines president and CEO.

The routes would be secured from Atlantic Coast Airlines, a regional carrier for Delta that plans to become independent in June.

Atlantic Coast makes about 250 Delta Connection flights a day from Cincinnati to 46 cities, including Philadelphia and Boston. It has a fleet of about 30 regional jets that are compatible with the Skyway fleet of 32-seat Fairchild Dornier planes.
