Biggest And Smallest Planes You Have Flown

Wed Apr 07, 2004 1:18 pm

Question speaks for itself. The biggest plane I've flown is the 777, the smallest is a small Piper Dakota. If you like to go even smaller, I've also flown a glider. What is the biggest plane you have ever flown? What is the smallest plane you've ever flown? Please share your experiences as well as your answers, I am open to more than just the answers.

Shouldn't the question be

Biggest And Smallest Planes You Have Flown With

... or else only pilots can answer the original question.

In terms of commercial airliners, the biggest in rode in was a TWA L-1011 back in Feb. 1979.

It was a one-way BOS-JFK trip. My father and I picked up a car and drove back.

The smallest was a Saab 340 for both NW Airlink/Mesaba (2002-03) and as of two Sundays ago ATA Connection/Chicago Express.

Both were used as the 2nd leg of my flights to visit my father who's currently residing in Toledo. The XJ flights (DTW-TOL-DTW) were only 60 miles one-way and the flight was only in the air for about 15 minutes. More time was spent taxing in-and-out of DTW.

The smallest and only non-commercial plane I ridden on was a single-engined Piper or Cessna; I can't recall the model. We took off and landed at Lawrence Municipal Airport (not sure of the exact name or 3-letter code but it's located in Lawrence, MA).

This flight occurred in 1987. My only flight in the '80s.

Actually, please if you will, expand the categories I have requested to the longest and shortest airliners you have ever flown. The ones I have flown happen to be the same as the biggest and smallest airplanes I have flown (see the beginning thread introducing the topic)

Biggest airplane I've flown on were 747-200's of CX and NZ. The smallest airliner I've flown on was on Alpha Air Cessna 402. The smallest plane would have to be the Cessna 152.

I flew the Ryan PT-22 at one time. I didn't include it as the smallest since others were physically smaller. It was a neat plane, with the Kinner 5-cyl radial.

Biggest was an El Al 747-200 DTW-JFK-TLV and back to DTW.

Smallest was either a Cessna 172 out of PTK or some kind of bi-plane years ago that I can't remember the type, flown out of the Troy-Oakland airport. It could have been something like this:

So, VSgirl, as an airline pilot, you started flight training in a Fokker 27? That's a pretty spendy PPL.

Anyways, C-152 and 747-400 for me (seems to be the most common combination)  Big thumbs up
