Midwest Airlines New Livery Cancelled?

Thu Apr 08, 2004 10:50 am

Has Midwest Cancelled the repainting of existing aircraft into the new livery. It seems like they are just putting Midwest titles on the aircraft, and leaving the ME symbol on the tail with the old paint. Only 1 aircraft appears to have new paint and that is N813ME.

Probally a quick fix, similar to what Swiss did. They don't have money to paint them all at once.

Well the new colors are very close to the old colors and currently only the 717's and a selected munber of the MD80's (1 or 2) have the new colors. I'm assuming that they are paintign the MD80's as they go in for checks; therefore saving money.

They don't want to have to repaint them again when the fleet goes to beige and green with a lower case a on the tail. It takes several days and some money to paint an airliner. Airliners don't make money sitting in the paint shop. And since most of Midwest's 717's and a few -80's will be part of a large LCC network soon, they sure don't want to waste money on unnecessary paint. I will say that I like the new Midwest livery a lot though.

601 and 805 have the new tail logo, but the old stripe scheme and unpainted engines.

The biggest deal for YX was getting the "Express" out of the picture, which they found was too strongly associated with commuter carriers...YX wanted a stronger mainline image. Thus the "Express" gone first.

The Skyway fleet is likewise switching over, albeit shortly.

How real or firm is the story about them being bought out by another carrier?
I didn't know anything about this at all.

I sure would like to see a merger with the carrier your talking about, so would Boeing. FL needs the jets, but I'm betting it would be an expensive way to expand compared to doing it on their own.

I do not think YX will go. if they have to do fleet reductions, they will get rid of all the -30s and -10s, and kiss a couple of MD80s goodbye. The 717s will stay. If FL were to acquire their 717s, they would have to refit the ENTIRE plane to match theirs.

YX has Emergency lighting on the floor
FL has Emergency lighting on the seats

YX has full cooking capabilities with ovens and control systems
FL has small storage compartments in the galley

YX has 2 lavatories and where the forward bulkhead is on the FL 717s, there are storage compartments, and where the FL lavatory is there are more storage compartments.

I wouldn't keep your hopes up for a FL-YX merger, unless the case is the YX product remained as an separate entity. We are not on that fast of a pace to grow and why bother with the hassle trying to mingle two almost totally different corporations together while FL is killing its debt and buying new aircraft is not so hard to do for us anymore? Aircraft assembly lines aren't exactly running that tight these days. Not to say why would FL want to take on YX's debt?

I really do not see anyone snatching up YX anytime soon. There limited route map, and more of a niche carrier and now the saver service.
