Is There A United Airlines Museum In Chicago?

Sun Apr 11, 2004 10:17 am

This summer, my family and I are going to the Windy City and Minneapolis. Now a few years ago (2002), I was at the food court at Chicago-O'Hare Int. Airport and I saw this screen where it was showing a commercial for what looked like a United Airlines Museum. Does anyone know if there really is a museum and if so what is the address and website? Also, is there anything in Minneapolis that would have something to do with Northwest Airlines?

There is definitely a Northwest Museum in Minneapolis.

There is not a UAL Museum, at least not an official one.

Does anyone know any more about the Northwest Museum mentioned above?
I know North Central had one in their MSP headquarters, and it survived the RC merger, but that after NW bought them it was dismantled and everything was thrown away, or at least that's what I was told.....

yes, you are probably thinking of the 727 at the museum of Science and Industry, if you visit Chicago, check it out. It even has PTVs in it (but they just explain information on aviation and the 727)

I believe there is an aviation museum of some type at O'Hare airport in Chicago, I think it's in Terminal 2.

At SFO's international terminal (south side) there is a small but very nice commercial aviation museum there. It has lots about United and Pan Am. Very cool and worth a visit if you find yourself transiting through SFO! It's on the ticketing level by the Virgin Atlantic Lounge.

The debate continues... Starwood or Hyatt... which is better

UA does have a United mueseum but it is at WHQ. It's nice they have some very interesting artifacts from the earliest days of aviation. Like a huge clock that they did schdueling with has time zones and routes on te face of the clock. Apparently this was a holdover from a similar device railroads used.

They have lots of pictures and models and mannequins with F/A uniforms through out the years.

I doubt it will ever leave WHQ to goto a public mueseum.

The C.R. Smith museum is right next to their pilot training center. It's a great museum and well worth the trip. Their restored DC-3 "Flagship Knoxville" is located there.
