Update on New Livery Aircraft

The first DC-10 to feature the new livery, ship No. 1226, is currently serving the Atlantic region. A second DC-10, ship No. 1239, is being painted and will return to service April 19. The new livery aircraft will serve the Portland-Narita route which will debut June 10.

As of April 9, 118 Northwest aircraft feature the new livery.

Thanks for the update. I believe that 1226 returns to MSP tomorrow (Monday) for continuing service to the Atlantic region. Also I thought that 1238 was the other D10 down at AMA right now, obviously you might know the answer to that better than me. Sad to see the bowling shoe disappearing, but it is fun to see two liveries in operation!

They need to paint the engine part of the tail....that thing looks gross without the engine painted.....a boring scheme.

A PDX-NRT? PDX is a very quiet airport as is, I cannot imagine a route like that being too successful. I know DL did it, but that was years ago I think.

They're quite a few reasons for NW starting up this route. NW got several contracts for corporate travel from local companies. Also the Portland Chamber of Commerce lobbied for it. Those factors, plus not having to connect passengers thru Seattle. NW believes the traffic from Portland will be a chance to use a A330-200 in place of a 747-200 out of Seattle. It has a good chance of succeeding. The sevice will first will be operated with DC10's. In the fall, it will switch to the A332. Seattle will also switch to the A332 as well.

Will ship 1235 get painted before June? I'm hoping that the last DC10 flight to HNL from SEA will be 1235. As that is my favorite one, And I would like to ride on it in the old colors.

Well, we better call up NW right away and tell them to stop this route because you think it won't be successful! I'm sure NW did no research for this and just jumped in for the fun of it.

Facetiousness aside, NW can work off of not only O/D, but also QX and AS feeds among other sources.

I forgot they sold tickets for each other.

BTW, I know you weren't serious with your comment, but I really didn't mean what you thought. I am saying I am skeptical of the success of the route since operations in and out of PDX, never seem to be that busy. All my family lives between PDX and SEA and they perfer to travel in and out of SEA, same as me. So basically, I am basing it on what I know myself.

AZO, he said he thinks it wouldn't be a good choice, he didn't recommend that NWA stop the route because it won't be successful! We'll just have to see how good this research is, because NW on a few past accounts made some pretty lousy decisions...

United4everDen..On the contrary, I think Northwest will do well in Portland with the feed that it will receive from Alaska/Horizon and PDX own O&D traffic. Not to sound bias but I personally prefer flying from PDX over Sea/tac. Seattle is way to congested and it only going to get worst and the lines at the security area are extremely long and time consuming. I guess you and your family must look at this as a plus. Just for the record PDX is not the ghost town that you would like to lead every one to believe...
