What Happened To My United Reservation?

Mon Apr 12, 2004 12:21 am

Happy Easter to those who celebrate-

Curious thing happened this morning-I went to United.com to print out my reservation I made in Feb-my flights are as follows:

May 7

United 464 PDX-SFO seat 16F
United 837 SFO-(NRT)-BKK seat 56K

May 14

United 838 BKK-(NRT)-SFO seat 55A
United 580 SFO-PDX seat 19F

When I pulled up my reservation, the SFO-BKK-SFO flights no longer have a seat assignment, and now say plane change....before it said 744 for equipment and we always had the plane change in NRT-why the change now, and what happened to my seats??? I'd hate to think I'd get stuck in anything but a window seat for those long flights...

Anyone know what happened???

Thanks!
Where will this amount of cash take me?

when they do an equipment change, rarely does the system fix your seat assignments.

Just my observations..

Just call UAL international reservations and they will fix it for you.
There is no need to come on theses forums a post your worries to the world.

UAL will fix the problem unlike anyone here on the forum can.....they can also explain what happend

And yes EQ and schedule changes are a hourly thing at most airlines.

When an airline changes aircraft (which they frequently do) the system no longer recognises seat assignments. Sometimes closer to the time they will manually try to reinstate what they can of those requests. This is why in the vast majority of airlines small print information you will find a paragraph something along the lines of:

"Any seating allocations are a seat request only and are subject to change or cancellation".

I would imagine the original B744 has been substituted for another B744 with a different configuration. Your best bet will be to grab another seat assignment, either through the web or by phone and hope this doesn't happen again.

There is two differently configured 744's?

Rsmith6621a-I agree with you a 100% Well said! As I mentioned in an another thread some people prefer to solicit help from anet people-not in position to help, rather than go to the applicable enity that can fix problem or answer question.

SevenHeavy-Also agree with you a 100% Seats are request subject to cancellation. As I title prior thread, "Tantrums Over Seats", I have had numerous people throw fits when they arrive at airport and their seats have been cancelled or changed.

There are probably more than two. A number of airlines operate the same type of aircraft - particularly long haul aircraft, in different configurations for different routes ( A lot of airlines configure pacific routes with large premium cabins, whilst the same a/c operating a transatlantic route will have more economy seats - for effective yield management). I can't speak for UA specifically but even aircraft which appear to have an identical configuration may on one route have for example, seats blocked for crew rest. This can mean a different equipment code in the computer. As your routing has not changed I would imagine your configuration has changed, as crew rest seats would be input in the system from the start.

ok, ok-sorry I asked...I've flown a lot, and never had this happen before-as far as I know, UA only had one configuration of a 744, and I know that the flight is booked solid. I was just curious if anyone else had this happen before, and if they knew why it happened-

I wasn't trying to get help-I know the airline is the only one who can do that...

United has ONE configuration for the b744, the 777 has like 5. Don't know what happened but I can tell you they only have 1 seat configuration for the whale.

The 747 is 14 first 73 business and 260 coach

UAl4me-I am sorry if I implied you were soliciting help! As you indicate-you were just asking a question. Perhaps I was quick to rush to judgement after seeing other threads. Your situation is one that does catch people off-guard, at least you caught it in advance and hopefully it can be corrected. Hope all goes well with your flights!

According to the UA Website, there is one config for the 747 and 4 for the 777.

I'm SURE that there use to be 4 or more config's on the 747????

Thanks for your understanding everyone-

Update on my issue-I called UAL and they stated that originally, the flight from SFO to BKK was same plane service, but that they have changed it-I will have to change planes in NRT, just to another 744 with the same config. The rep told me that the flight is now overbooked, so they freed up all the seats for check in seat assignments. My problem is, that with a long flight like this, I tend to get a little claustrophobic unless I can look outside. I had a horrible experience a few years back on a fully booked BA flight when I sat in the middle of a 747, and got incredibly sick because I felt like I was on a roller coaster (lots of turbulence)-passed out when I stood up, and well, the purser was ready to recommend the pilot to drop me off in Iceland on this transatlantic flight.

I love to fly, and believe me, it was a huge disappointment that this happened to me-I was very embarrassed! Anyway, the purser had me lay down in the crew rest seats, and sat with me for the rest of the flight-wonderful woman, and to top it off, she offered to give me a lift to Oxfordshire when we got to LHR! I wrote a letter to BA, as you can't beat service like that-

Needless to say, I really try to push to have that window seat so I don't have a repeat of that experience.

Anyway, when I called UAL just now, she asked me what seats I wanted, and with seatguru.com in front of me, I gave her my 'preferred' seats...she booked them, and I just got the confirm e-mailed to me. She was happy to do it, and wished me a good trip to BKK.

I guess it pays to check on your reservation from time to time, and also to be nice to the customer service reps...
