Airline With Best Variety Of AC

Mon Apr 12, 2004 3:16 am

I would have to say that the airline with the best variety of a/c would be United. Whenever I have flown UA in the past I have always gotten a great selection of different a/c to choose from. According to their web site they currently fly 17 different types of a/c, from Boeing to airbus to canadair, dornier, and beechcraft, they seem to have them all.
I know that Delta also has a pretty big fleet of a/c but not much variety. They seemed to neglect Europe and stick with the north american a/c companies like Boeing, canadair, and McDonnell Douglas. There is also American, or should I call them MD-80 Airlines. I have flown American 3 times and never gotten anything but an MD-80. Now who here's favorite plane is the MD-80............anyone..................anyone...............yeah me either!Southwest......well, enough said. And finally Continental. I think that they prefer Boeing which is kind of sad to see. I'm glad they support the US economy but not much fun for me and other freq. flyers. Can you think of any other airlines?

IB has B-747-200/300, A340, A340-600, A319, A320, A321, B-757,B757-200, MD-87/88, Air Nostrum has the ATR-72, DHC-8, CRJ-600, Fokker 50 and if I remember correctly they have 2 DC-8 cargo planes.
These are my principles but if you don't like them I have others

I'm a big fan of airlines that have both Boeing and Airbus a/c like United and US Airways.

AeroMexico is also an AEROMD80 operator, almost the half of the company fleet is composed of MD-82/83/87/88, but they have a nice variety of a/c, they operate the Saab 340-B, they will start operating the Embraer E145, they are retiring their DC-9-30's, they operate MD-87's, Boeing 737-700W's
, MD-82, MD-83, MD-88, Boeing 757-200's, 767-200's, and 767-300's.
There are many options to choose from...

I almost forget, they operate the 727-200F (AEROMEXPRESS)

Cheers

At one point Egyptair operated a huge variety of aircraft including:

B732
B735
B762ER
B763ER
B743
B772
A320
A321
A300B4
A300-600R
A342

By the end of the year the airline will have streamlined its fleet to include the following A32X/A332/A342/B772/A300F

Horus,

Are you saying Egyptair is getting rid of its 737s and A300-600Rs?

I'm glad the 777s are staying......

BA, that's exactly what I'm saying. Though the A300s may stay until the end of 2005.

Horus,

What is replacing their 737-500s?

I assume the A300s will be replaced by the A330-200s as they come in?

What's replacing the 747-300s. I love those planes. They look extremely sharp in the Egyptair livery.

BA

The 5 A320s delivered last October and November, are replacing the 3 735s (1 735 is with subsidery Air Sinai). The 735s (delivered in 91/92) are being mainly used on domestic flights, and they might all be transferred to Air Sinai eventually.

In the long term Egyptair is considering purchasing Embraer or Bombardier regional jets to take-over the domestic route network and boost frequency (they leased 6 ATR-42s last year to see the feasibilty of such a plan and it proved very successfull).

As of yet, there are no replacements for the 743s, but their have been reports that the airline will be re-ordering 2 A340-600s (plus 2 on options)

Check this link to another for computer generated photos of the A332 and A346 in MS c/s

Quite honestly, I would have to say that CO has one of the most boring fleets out there with the exception of airlines that only operate one type.

After the MD-80s retire, which should be soon, they will have the following:

737
757/767
777
E145/E135

The limited number of fleet types is great for saving costs with commonality, but it is exceptionally boring for frequent CO fliers. Many CO stations don't see anything but 737s.

Why do the other majors have so many different types of aircraft in comparison to CO?

I think most boring fleet would go to Southwest!  Wink/being sarcastic

ALL Southwest stations only see 737s.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I think JAL has a pretty large variety of aircraft, especially if you include JAS aircraft.

Yes, I would like Southwest to have gone with a different airplane than the 737. Im not a fan of the 737 at all.

BA

Yeah, the A332s should gradually replace the A300-600Rs to routes to Europe and trunk routes within the Middle East.

Actually , BA don't have a wide variety - just a large number of aircraft!

There are also many franchise carriers that fly in BA colours.

Fleet is actually quite simple :

LHR W/W

747-400
777-200
767-300

LHR S/H
767-300
757-200
A320 + A319

LGW
777-200
737-400/500

and that's it of the main 2 bases.

Good mix of versatile/popular planes though.

I'm glad MS decided to keep the 777s.

I like BA's fleet.
AA is also good too, they have to Fokker 100 and MD80, as well as almost all versions of Boeing a/c (meaning 738, 752, 762/3, 772) besides the 744. They also have the A300, and used to have the MD-11, which I loved seeing in AA's colors, too bad they got rid of those, I always wanted to fly on an MD-11 somewhere, and as time goes on my chances are getting slimmer.

Air France:

B747-400, B747-200, B777, A330, A340, B737-500, B737-300, A320, A319, A321, A318, B767-300.

I cannot think of a carrier with better variety! HAS TO BE AF!

If youre looking for the best variety in long haul widebodied aircraft look no further than CX and AF :

1. AF had and have now :

B 767 A 332 A 310 B 744 B 743/742 B 772 A 343 and soon B 773 ...narrowbody A 318-319-320-321 with B 733-735

2. CX is the best for widebody :

A 333-343-346 B 772-773 B 744

3. SAA :

A 332-343-346 B 762 B 738 A 320s B 743 B 744

4. THAI :

B 744-743-773-772 A 333-345-346 (on their way) AB6 + B 734 + MD 11
