Largest 747 Fleet In The World?

Wed Apr 14, 2004 10:15 am

Hi,

I want to construct a list of the 10 largest 747 operaters in the world but I only know a few of the airlines 747 fleet.

QF 36 747s
SQ 29 747s
CX 23 747s

I'm not sure if thats correct but I also know BA and JL have large 747 fleets.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Korean Air (43)
AF (40)
NWA (40)
Lufthansa (38)
Qantas (36)
ANA (32)

Yes, to answer your question. United parked over (30) 747's older models at Victorville. They also have (65) stored Boeing 737's there also.

What about KLM? How many 747-200B (SUD)s and 747-300s do they have and how many 747-400s? Does Air France really have that many? And how about Saudia?

KLM fleet info: http://www.klm.com/generic/bin/145_35410.pdf

KLM currently operates 22 747-400 and -400M aircraft and 2 -400ERF for a total of 24 aircraft. There were plans to acquire a 3rd ERF and maybe a few more -400s, but those may well have been scrapped now that they no longer exist as an independent company and have to bow to the whiles and wills of Paris.

LVZXV,

The answer to your question about KLM and Saudi Arabian's 747 fleets are:

KLM (25) 747's
Saudi (26) 747's

Air NZ only have about 8 744's, although 2 of those are on lease and I think have or are about to be returned.
Regos are ZK-NBS-NBW and ZK SUH-HIJ.

aa777jr,
UAL doesn't have 65 parked 737's, we have around 9 and 10 of them parked.

UAL parked the 100,200 series 747's before 9/11, they were old and the 400 replaced them just nicely.

I don't have any specifics but for the comment on JAL's 747s, JAL has always had a large 747 fleet. They've been steadily building their fleet of 747s over the decades especially during the 90s. JAL and British Airways were once head to head in the 90s but JAL eventually eclipsed BA in 747s operated.

I'm confused... people are asking a lot of questions in here!

Let me recap as best as possible. In terms of number of 747s, the JAL group has the most? In terms of 747s with one airline name (perhaps even livery??), I believe British Airways wins that one?

Whatever. She is a fine machine.

Atlas Air Cargo (especially when including Polar) should be in that top 10 list, if not the top 5.

Pure JAL totals 72 -- 747s minus 10 Freighters = 62 747s
BA total...56 or 57 -- 747s

But in all respect JAA should easily count as did/does British Asia Airways (2)

Japan Asia Airways (6)

JAL= 78 - 747s

SAA has 8. Hey they would have more just the governement is tired of constantly giving them money for all their mistakes. The governement recently had to re capitalise them for $1 Billion and also pay for there new Airbus fleet.

They could easily operate 20+ if they had the money to buy them.

Irregardless of fleet size, the 747 in all its forms is one terrific aircraft. Maybe a bit too large on some routes, but nevertheless a real passenger pleaser and a workhorse of the airlines. Someone's crazy idea is now everyone's idea of incredible air travel. I've lived with this puppy since before the beginning. Flown every continent and ocean in the world on scheduled routes. Even some where we ferried the planes. Give me a Boeing 747 in any variation of model and I'm a happy camper!
