What Planes Will CanJet Use?

Fri Feb 04, 2000 4:58 am

Lately, I've seen posts regarding CanJet ordering some Dash 8's. (A little irony here? If you don't understand - look at the name of the new airline.) And 737s, of course.

But specifically, can anyone tell me what type of planes and number of planes CanJet is likely to order? I already know that 20 is the total number of planes. I've heard reports of "125 seat 737s" in the media - a little too big for a 737-200, even in an all economy class layout! I've also heard something about 717s, too, though it's probably either ditched as a choice by CanJet or they're not saying anything(not uncommon for airlines to do that).

If anyone can clear things up or provide any new information, I'll appreciate that.

CanJet is owned by IMP Group, which still has 8 turboprop aircraft sitting around from Air Atlantic, which shut down 2 years ago. These are Jetstream41 and Dash8 aircraft. IMP Group has floated the idea of using these aircraft to feed CanJet's mainline aircraft.

As far as what CanJet will use, I don't think it's decided yet. One way or another, it has to be something that's readily availiable to take delivery of. 737's seem likely, but who knows what series.

Thanks, AC183. That's probably good enough for me. We'll have to wait and see, won't we?

I am hearing 320's and 737s' aswell. DH8's make a good idea as for J41's well what kind of a short haul route what they use for that. I doupt a YHM-YYZ route.

125 seats for a 737-200 isn't that much. I think most carriers operating the 737-200 in a single class, domestic layout, configure them with about 118. But, yeah, 125 seats is much better than the 737-500 I was on with 139 seats (Taesa YWG-CZM-CUN-YWG)!!

From what I heard, CanJet was initially considering the 717. But they have started looking at the 737 as well, as the 717 has apparantly not yet been certified in Canada.

I didn't hear anything on the 717. I will see about that 717 being used. I know that canjet is going to use their 737-200,dash8. Thats all I know. Maybe they will use the dh8 for short haul routes. Possibly to the USA. I know they will use the 737's for YHM-YWG,YHM-YHZ,YHM-YOW,YHM-YUL.
