Delta 737-832 At IND

Wed Apr 14, 2004 1:56 pm

Someone on A.Net will either have the answer or know where to get the answer. This evening (Tuesday, 4-13-2004) I saw a Delta 737-832 N378DA

sitting at IND, parked in area that is normally for charter flights or diversions. It appeared they had a GPU hooked up, the beacons were turned on and it appeared passengers were sitting on board. Does anyone know if it was a diversion? The only Delta aircraft I ever see at IND are 737-232s and MD-88s (not including RJs). I thought it might have been an NBA charter (Pacers WILL beat the Chicago Bulls Wednesday night) but there was a Champion Air 727 sitting right next to the DL 738 that The Bulls probably chartered.

DL1162 SEACVG.
Diverted due to ATC equipment failure at CVG. The equipment wasn't down for very long however this aircraft didn't have a lot of holding fuel.
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

If they had an ATC problem, I'm surprised there weren't more diverts to IND. Why didn't Delta put winglets on their B738s?

Someone correct me if I am wrong...

The wiinglets optimize fuel consumption on the 737 for longer flights (SEA-CVG would count however) (flights of over 1000 miles efficiency gain of around 3.5/4.0 % as well as some payload performance gains), and DL doesn't always use them for long flights (East coast shuttle ops) - and they really want consistency in their 738 fleet .
