Airlines In Argentina

Fri Feb 04, 2000 4:59 am

I was wondering if anyone can give me information on the situation with the other airlines in Argentina. I mean, everyone has been talking about Aerolineas Argentinas & their troubles, but not about the other airlines.

The way it looks now, LAPA, Southern Wind, Dinar, & the smaller regional airlines seem to be doing well, because I haven't heard of them being in financial troubles like AR, or the airlines in Brazil, where they are all having problems.

Can someone shed light into the situation of the other airlines in Argentina? Is Aerolineas problem just their problem, or are the other airlines in trouble too? I would think AR's problems are unique to their company.

Gracias, CHE!

AR problem is the owner(IB) is really ineficient,AUSTRAL will be merge with aerolineas, LAPA dont have financials problems, because the owner is multimillioner, they have 2 757-200 new, and bought 15 737-700, about 8 are flying, and the others will be deliver this year.Dinar have not a critical situation but a heard that they have some trobles but still flying, southern winds is growing strong, i dont have information about LAER; KAIKEN;TAN.The economical situation in Argentina is not good, so it is not extrange that the airlines reflect that problems.

Airlines In Argentina And My What If...

AR's problems are their own.

As far as the rest...all seem to be doing well, I haven't heard about any troubles with Dinar as Argento I'm not sure. TAN even related to VASP is ok.

As far as the future goes?? This is my thought, a what if...lets say.

If AR goes under this is what I see happenning...

LAPA will take over as the INTL airline for Argentina. (In my mind and dreams   I see a pretty LAPA 777)

Southern Winds will become the next LAPA.

Dinar will be an Austral type alternative.

LAER will grow. It seems to be doing very well, lots of the routes they offer were AR's.

American Falcon, haven't tried them yet but they are flying from EZE check there web site and look at there's a good idea. They fly EZE to Mar del Plata and such and offer charters as well. All they need is to get some RJs, like SW and take it from there.

Kaiken...another I have not tried but they seem to be doing well flying between Ushuaia, Rio Gallegos and Lago Argentino. They fly Saab 340. I don't know about them, if it will be around or not.

TAN is still profitable last time I checked. I think VASP needs to leave them alone though. I flown them before and it was all good. I see no reason for TAN to go under...but who knows. It would be nice to see them flying som ERJ 145/35. The site has not been working for me but here for reference. It was a nice site.

My last thought...LADE...they are still flying...and I think they will play a big part en la Patagonia for a long time...they should get some new planes...the last F28 I was on looked lets say bad. I think they should keep the Twin Otters for as long as they can those little things are soooo much fun. Great site too.

Just my predictions of what could happen or maybe I should say what I'd like to see happen. But with all honesty I hope AR is saved. Just because it would be hard to get used to LAPA as the national flag carrier or any other for that fact.

AR is bad and has been, never made a profit bla bla bla but after all it is AEROLINEAS ARGENTINAS.

I'll shut up for now.

The economy in Argentina is trying to come out of recession, I agree with Argento that the economy has been awful last year & a half...

...but you know how us Argentines are. WE ALWAYS COMPLAIN ABOUT THE ECONOMY, EVERYTHING!!

We are professional winers, & I think "mis amigos Argentinos" will agree with this.

If De la Rua does the things he needs to do, reduce the deficit, etc, the economy in Argentina WILL get better.

I Agree...

BUT let's not go into politics...I'll say this...I not too sure about De la Rua.

I think Malaysia Airlines' EZE-CPT-JNB-KUL route is in trouble. It has always been difficult for MAS to maintain this route - a route that it was asked to fly by the respective governments - due to the following facts:

1. Although MAS is the ONLY S.E.Asian carrier into Argentina - the traffic volume is not that great.
2. MAS has little choice but to use a 747-400 on the route because of aircraft availability and the distance flown...
3. ...A smaller aircraft would make the route unviable as the KUL-JNB-CPT sectors are often quite busy.
4. MAS invited Aerolineas Argentinas to code-share on the route to share costs but AR is not keen to continue.
5. MAS has not really set up onward connections at EZE to offer Asian travellers more of South America and vice-versa.
6. Both AR and MAS are tipped to join separate alliances.

When mas inniciated the KUL-JNB-CPT-EZE flight mas opereted the world MD11, and later the 747-400, mas was the only airline flying EZE-JNB, but 2 or 3 year ago SAA reiniciated the route, last year quantas begun a code share agreement with AR, 2 AR flights and 2 QA, EZE-AUK-SYD.SAA and QA are cheaper than MAS,to the south pacific, and also the european airlines offer good prices to asia, they increase the number of flights and they have to load it, I think all this competitions become in serius problems in that thin route for MAS.
