Is There Anyone Who Has Never Seen A 747?

Thu Apr 15, 2004 12:00 pm

I have never seen a 747 and I was wondering how many of you have never seen a 747 or any other major widebody aircraft.

I love those monsters! I have seen them of course. Saw my first British Airways 747 in person climbing out of MIA last week. I also saw a bunch of UA 744s at ORD during my layovers to and fro FLL. Such beautiful aircraft.

I see 747s all the time at all the airports I fly to. Basically the only places u wont see a 747 is when the airport is in the middle of a cornfield in Iowa.

I get 747s at my home airport, MSP. It is still an amazing site to see every day after all these years. There, we get nearly every wide body except L-1011 and 777. I would accept both.  Big thumbs up

The Big Boeing is a rare sight at TPA, these days. There used to be an Air Canada one here, in the 90's, during tourist seasons. I saw one a few weeks back, leaving for a big B-Ball game in Tokyo. That was discussed here, in another link.

The 747 on ground is a rarity here. If I recall correctly, only two 747's have ever visited TLL.

Since the football match Scotland vs Estonia will be taking place in Tallinn in May, I kind of hope that at least one of the charter flights with Scottish fans will be on a 747 (the last time it was an Air Atlanta Icelandic 747-200).

However, I see plenty of them passing over my head at FL390. Big grin

Walking up next to a 747 was a rush for me. Dropping down into the main wing tank on C-5 was a bigger rush (feet on bottom, arm pits on the top of the wing). But for me, the biggest awe was walking up next to a 777-300. I think it is the fact it only has 2 engines...just wasn't anything like it.

I'd never seen a 747 on the ground until two weeks ago - boarding an Aer Lingus flight at LHR, the jetbridge broke down. We were led down some steps and out over the tarmac outside terminal 1 to the back door of the plane....and there, literally forty feet away - a Singapore 744 cruising down the taxiway. I'd seen them plenty in the air and from a distance...but nothing could have prepared me for how MASSIVE it was seen from down there - awesome.

Am taking my first 744 flight on Tuesday - BA. Looking good....

I saw recently at Castle Island in BOS a Lufthansa 747-400 fly right over my head at 500ft or so and then 1 week later got to see it again on final for 4R in BOS...

Best part was...my girlfriend was on them! Dont know the reg for the ride to Germany, but she flew D-ABVU on the way home!
