HA To Restart SAN-OGG This Summer

Thu Apr 15, 2004 2:42 pm

There's been no official announcement yet, but Hawaiian Airlines has uploaded a SAN-OGG flight to their summer schedule, effective 6/15/04:

OGG-SAN: Hawaiian38 dep2:00pm arr10:05pm 5h05m 763
SAN-OGG: Hawaiian37 dep10:00am arr12:30pm 5h30m 763

Definitely good news for Hawaiian and SAN. I had thought that HA had pretty much canceled all OGG-California service, given it's taken them this long to load the new flight into their schedules, much less announce it altogether.

At any rate, good to see that SAN-OGG held its own last year, at least enough to warrant another seasonal service. SAN-HNL seems to have become a well-established route, even though all of my observations on its performance are purely amateur and anecdotal. Hopefully, SAN-OGG will go year-round sometime in the next year or two.

What I don't understand is why LAX doesn't see an OGG flight when it appears to be a good route, with a few airlines like UA and AA offering quite a few flights.

It's because LAX-OGG has all those airlines flying the route. HA's loads on the route wasn't the greatest when it was operating.
