As I see it, the incentives for Airbus to source from the U.S. and eventually establish their own production facility here are twofold:
1. To take advantage of the continuing weakness of the dollar to the euro and lower costs for part of their organization, thereby maintaining price competitiveness.
2. To undermine U.S. political resistance toward airline/government purchases of non-U.S. aircraft and mitigate any U.S. criticism of European government funding of Airbus.
A sound and likely effective strategy that should prove win-win for all parties involved. Similarly, look for Boeing to get more involved with European industry, as well.
