Confirmed: Air Tahiti Nui To New York And SYD

Sat Apr 17, 2004 3:55 am

Ia Orana all
Air Tahiti Nui will get a 5th airplane in June 2005, it'll be an a340 300 (config 6F / 24C / 264Y) and therefore Air Tahiti Nui will be able to fly to New York and Sydney.
Right now ATN flies to Los Angeles (13 glights a week), Paris CDG (5 flights a week), Auckland (3 flights/week), Tokyo Narita (3 flights/week) and Osaka (1flight/week).

I just saw that Air Tahiti Nui has joined the NWA Worldperks Program. Anyone know how integrated they will be in the future?

That's fantastic! Will it operate nonstop PPT-NYC, or via LAX? I'm hoping for a nonstop...

A nonstop PPT-NYC would make sense : if the flight was via LAX, ATN would not have traffic rights between LAX and NYC and this would make it really unprofitable, and where would be the interest for ATN to propose a flight via LAX ? a code share with any US airline on the NYC-LAX in connection with the LAX-PPT flight would be more realistic in that case...

I am also wondering if the NYC flight will be an extension of the LAX flight on one of more days per week - also, will the SYD flight be an extension of the AKL flight or will it be an independent service? (QF no longer serves PPT.) Tahiti is a wonderful place, I was lucky enough to visit there a few years ago, and has a lot of potential as a tourist destination - and it is anything but cheap -so yeilds should be OK on these new routes. Princess Cruises also has based ships in PPT for SouthSeas cruising (Princess is now using ATN out of LAX instead of charters.)

Which airport will the NYC service use?

What ever happened to all of the speculation about a service to Vancouver? At one time, Vancouver was mentioned as a stopover on the PPT-CDG flights (instead of LAX) and Vancouver has also been rumored as seperate new destination.

According to a.net a typical a340 300 has a range of 6700nm
So according to the great circle mapper they could make it nonstop between JFK (EWR ?) to PPT.

Nonstop JFK-PPT is no problem at all for a 343.

PPT-JFK is 5465 nm (or 6289 mi or 10121 km) which is far from the A343 range limit... It is the equivalent of a LAX-FCO or SIN-FRA...
