Emirates Secret To Success!

Sat Apr 17, 2004 7:39 am

I think I've discovered the secret to Emirates' success!  Big grin

They cram more people per airplane than most other majors -- 3-4-3 in a 777. That sounds quite a bit more cramped than the more usual 2-5-2/3-3-3.

Can someone who has flown Emirates relay the comfort level? Does it feel cramped? Does the gigantic LCD screen compensate?

I have flown their 777s (both the 772 and 773) on their CAI-DXB-CAI route, and found the seats very comfortable. You don't get to notice the seats are narrow too much, as the legroom is pretty good and the IFE is amazing.

I don't know how they make it work. I've flown EK a fair amount but only in J class. I nearly collapsed in shock when I peered through the curtain and realised that there were ten faces per row staring back at me! They routinely win awards for the best service / comfort (yes, comfort) / food etc in the sky! Yet these must be seriously narrow seats! Far from complaints, they have a massive following amoung travellers between Europe and Asia. Look how fast they're growing. I guess people just don't notice, somehow.

And yep, I bet it adds significantly to the bottom line. I know some on here are resentful of EK's success but they are not stupid people. EK, that is; the EK-bashers are stupid however, as though it's just oil wealth that keeps the airline in the sky. No way, they really know what they're doing. I think a lot of the top brass are ex-BA.

They have extra legroom to make up for the 3-4-3 config

In July 2001 I flew on an Emirates 773 in Economy. It was no problem! The seats didn't seem that narrow and the pitch was good enough. I was pretty comfortable overall, especially with that foot rest. It felt no different to the earlier AC 763 I was on.

i fly EK on its 773 from melbourne to auckland quite often, and there is enough legroom, not much narrower than SIA's 777. the only problem was my cabin baggage did get sometimes stuck in the aisle.
