World Airways In LAX

Sun Apr 18, 2004 6:42 am

I was just a LAX and I saw one World Airways plane close to the Delta Airlines Hangar and another World Airways plane at a Terminal 2 gate. Does anyone know why there were two world Airways MD11´s at LAX?? I was wondering where they were headed and if it was a passenger or charter plane. All info is gratly appreciated.
Thank you,
Kevin

Could be a ferry flight, as Delta TechOps has the contract to do heavy MX work for World Airways, and it might be smarter to fly them to the DL hangar at LAX instead of flying them to ATL.

The aircraft at T-2 is operating on behalf of AMC. World flies two weekly flights for the military to Japan and South Korea.

Delta does indeed do World's MD-11 maintenance work which explains the aircraft by the DL hangar.

In addition World often operates a DC-10 freighter thru LAX which parks on the south side of the airport close to the Imperial Terminal.

Lastly World being a charter operator often has many flights during the year at LAX for its various clients.

From the desert to the sea, to all of Southern California

I've seen as many as 3 World MD11s at LAX at once..all at the remote pads.

The MD-11s operating the AMC flights go to Seattle first then to 3 different routings from Seattle to Yokota AB, Japan; Kadena AB, Okinawa; Osan and Kunsan AB, Korea, Iwakuni MCAS and Misawa AB, Japan
