It's just the quality of service that remains to be significantly improved on Egyptair. Food (and drinks) are generally of poor quality compared to other airlines from the Middle East.

Beaucaire, when was the last time you flew with Egyptair?

Over the last couple of years (especially in the last few months), MS have greatly improved their on-board services. Last February I flew with them taking the following routing FRA-CAI-JED-CAI-LHR, experiencing the A320, A340, A300-600R and B777 respectively and had a great experience. About the meals, I would have to disagree with you as the meals were tasty and the portions are quite large and you can even ask for extra meals. To compare the breakfasts that I had with MS (on the JED-CAI flight) and the BA flight (from LHR-FRA), MS offered mashed potatos, boiled eggs, sausages, youghart, croisant and tea/coffee. BA on the other hand only had youghart, fruit salad, bread and tea/coffee.

p.s. MEA310, the marathon was great and i'm starting to recover from the aches and pains. Thanks for asking  Big thumbs up

Horus,
there were some articles in the German travel press about MS reducing their summer schedule and that the German tour operators are pretty pissed.
They actually canceled some flights completely and doing that in April for the upcoming summer season didn't help them improving their reliability.

FraT, well the thing is Egyptair is going through some major restructuring at the moment, which has caused 12 destinations to be dropped (including Hamburg) but the increase in frequency on most other routes.

I can't comment on what you read in the travel press as I haven't read it, but the latest infomation shows that Egyptair has and continues to upgrade services to Frankfurt (as shown above).

In fact this week MS is operating an extra flight (taking it up to 6x weekly) operating the A300-600R as well as the A340 to meet the high demand during the holiday period.

Like I said above, I have included only the airline's scheduled services to Germany, but there are many charters operated by Egyptair and their subsidery Air Cairo.

I doubt very much we'll see MS downsizing services to Germany, as up until last year Germans made up the largest number of tourists to Egypt (now Italians take first position). Also the economic and cultural links between both countries means links remain very close.

Horus,

I don't know if you speak or understand some German. Below is the link to "Touristik aktuell", one of the most important travel sources in Germany.
Tour operators are claiming that MS has 13 flights less per week and is using smaller equipment on some routes. It also says that Egypt doesn't allow charter flights to destinations operated by MS (I didn't know that).

So again, if these plans come true, Egypt shouldn't expect big support from tour operators as they don't like to deal with these problems.

Sorry for the incomplete link. You have to press "Suche" then type in Egyptair and read the first article.

FraT, there must be something wrong with their information (I understand they are a reliable source though). Well the thing is Egyptair operates 17 flights a week to Germany, so if the airline had removed 13 frequencies, that would leave them with only 4x weekly flights which is not the case at all. Like I said it is very unlikely such plans would ever go through and there have been no reports of such a move in Egypt.

'It also says that Egypt doesn't allow charter flights to destinations operated by MS (I didn't know that).'

That is the general case, but you'll find that many German/Egyptian charter airlines operate to Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada and Luxor on the same routes as MS, so they are in direct competition. Also before Aero-Lloyd went under, they operated a profitable weekly Munich-Cairo flight in competition with MS (Aero Flight is expected to resume flights on the route soon). Also last year Lufthansa was able to get 5th freedom right between Cairo and Kuwait on its FRA-CAI-KWI-CAI-FRA route.
