History Of Commercial Aviation

Tue Apr 20, 2004 5:25 am

Hey everyone. I am doing a report for my History class here at KU, and I chose Commercial Aviation in the United States, and the time period is 1920 - 1945. Does anyone know any websites with RELIABLE information about this? Thanks everyone!

Although it's not a website, a book that I highly recommend reading is Turbulent Skies: The History of Commercial Aviation by T. A. Heppenheimer. It gives a great overview of the entire history of commercial aviation like how the airline business evolved over time and how the advances in technology spurred it's growth. It really focuses on the American airline industry. Also, I'd recommend Chasing the Sun, a 4-episode PBS documentary about the airline industry's history from it's inception until today. Hope these help.
