Air Force One In BUF Tuesday?

Tue Apr 20, 2004 8:50 am

My contact out at KBUF just called me on my cell and said that he's been hearing quite a few rumors that Air Force One is supposed to be coming into BUF tomorrow morning. We're doing quite the research right now. Does anyone have any information about it?

Yes. The president is coming to Buffalo tommorow, so he probably will come in in AF1. Watch RNEWS in Rochester.

If it is indeed Air Force One, it will be the first 747 to ever land in KBUF. I also don't get Rochester news down here.

Doesn't matter what he lands in, it could be a 747, 757 or a Cessna, as long as it is an Air Force airplane with the US President in it will be called Air Force One.

There really, really, really needs to be a frequently asked questions and frequent response board on this forum. I also have an extremely hard time to believe it's the first time a 747 has landed at BUF.

Its really to bad that the Prez cant find other states to visit like....Washington....Oregon....Montana....Wyoming....Idaho.

It seems AF 1 lands in the same 9 states time after time after time.....

When slick Willy came into BUF a few years ago he flew in on the C-32 (757 AF designation) I wouldnt be surprised if Dubya did the same, then again.. he might want to make a texas style enterence.

I guess it's better to keep out of Flying Tigers tomorrow morning unless you want to get into trouble  Big grin

Does anyone know what time is he coming? My flight out of BUF is at 8 so maybe I'll see him.

Anyone who works for UPS is a friend of mine  Smile

Current UPS shipping load:

1 outbound
2 inbound

Not too much, some weeks I have 5 or more inbounds

Rsmith6621a,

Well he's coming to Maine on Thursday for a lunch speech. He flies into Sanford Reg. Airport-KSFM on the 757 usually when he comes to Southern Maine. Quite a site for an airport which normally seens only piston props and an occasional bizjet

So whose going to bite the bullet and head over to Flying Tigers with a camera? You don't think they'll be any secret service watching that fence line do you?!?

Anyway, it says in the paper he'll be speaking about the Patriot Act and it's importance....he is using Buffalo as a stop partly because of the "Lackawanna six" criminal case.

I fondly remember the AA DC-10 and Eastern L1011 days at BUF but I have never seen or heard of a 747 there. Back in the mid-70's My parents used to fly on charter 747's from Niagara Falls airport to Portugal and some other points in Europe. I see many of the pictures on A.Net and realize 747's use runways shorter than Buffalo's on a regular basis so it certainly can be done. I would bet on the 757 version of AF1 though.

Hopefully one of you guys can get some pictures.

I was thinking of going there, but I'm sure the SS would have Flying Tigers all blocked off. Would be cool to be driving down the Thruway when it goes over.
I know when Cheney came to roc in the 757 , it was a mad cluster f&(ck! Cops everywhere!!!!!!!!

From WGRZ-TV Buffalo website:

"Tuesday morning at the airport, the President emerged from Air Force One at 9:06. The jet was a 747, which we're told was retro-fitted to land on a shorter runway."

By the way, another article also said the Prez was headed back to KBUF for departure by 11:00am...quick trip!

(FYI- the main runway at KBUF is 8,102')

Hey Danny,

I got the boot from Flying Tigers within 30 seconds of getting out of the car. I've never seen so many cops in my life. But I ent up with a spot directly under the approach to runway 5, fucking amazing ('nuff said). I swear the plane came no more than 100 feet over my head. Awesome feeling.

KBUF737,

No, that isn't me, but I have a feeling I know who you are talking about  Big grin

Well now's a good time to start. And until today I didn't even know a 747 was certified to land here.

I found a video clip of the landing on the WKBW website. The initial landing is a bit grainy but still really cool to see. At about the 3 minute mark of the video you can see a closeup of the plane taxiing very fast past the main terminal. It took me a few minutes to figure it out what the plane did but from watching the video he landed on rwy 5, exited "B" taxiway in front of Flying Tigers and proceeded northeast to the end of the taxiway (instead of making a hard right and going back to the terminal like all planes normally do) , then he entered rwy 23 and backtracked down rwy 23 pretty fast. Too bad they don't have a video of the takeoff.

I did, but I have my doubts as to being a.net material due to the crappy weather this morning. And just for the go figure, the second I got into school the sun came out, but that's my luck.
