Another Proposed Start-up: Skybus Airlines

Wed Apr 21, 2004 2:26 am

Following the trend of proposed low-fare start-up carriers being discussed in several cities around the U.S., another has joined the fray. Skybus Airlines LLC today confirmed that it plans to start operations at Port Columbus International Airport. Here's the story from Columbus Business First:

http://columbus.bizjournals.com/columbus/stories/2004/04/19/daily9.html?jst=b_ln_hl

I doubt this venture will get off the ground. The people contemplating this proposed airline are the same who tried starting Heartland Airlines out of Dayton a few years back. In addition, the name of the proposed airline is horrible. More information should follow as the investors reveal more about their proposal, but I won't be holding my breath.

How many times is the name "SkyBus" going to be used (or more accurately, not used) for a start-up?

I would love to have a list of paper airlines from 1978 to now and their proposed cities.

Maybe next try they will move it to Youngstown/Warren.

What planes are they planning to use? Why not the 717, it is very popular with airlines that never got off the ground (Heartland, Northern, Oneida, Vuelamex, EU Airlines, just to name a few...)? eerrrhhh....!!!

OMG that website is so crappy! It looks like something designed by a 5 year old! What's with the balloons in the background on the "seat auction" page?

The Sky-Bus Airlines depicted on that website is not the same thing being proposed in Columbus, just to clear that up.

727LOVER:

Columbus' only Los Angeles flight was discontinued following America West's decision to close the Columbus hub. The demand is most definitely still there, and the airport is offering up incentives for flights to LAX and other high O&D destinations.

I seem to remember USAir 1493 being a CMH-LAX flight.

USAir did fly between Columbus and Los Angeles in the late 80's and early 90's; so did TWA. Both airlines discontinued the route about a decade ago. What I meant to say is at the time America West decided to discontinue their nonstop last year, it was the only nonstop flight from CMH to LAX.

Interesting...

I just went to CMH last week and I keep saying that it looks different without HP. I just hate how prices to the New York area have increased since HP left the route... Now you only have DL to JFK, AA to LGA and CO to EWR with most of the flights being served with ERJ's and with very expensive fares. I wish WN could start flights to ISP or JetBlue to JFK, that would help a lot... even a flight to DL / KBDL), USA - Connecticut">BDL would help, but so far, you can only get a cheap ticket to BWI on WN, lets see if Skybus ever takes off...

Lets hope that they use the same equipment as this Skybus - I'd certainly make an effort to fly with them if they did:

About the other Sky-bus...interesting that their 767-200 seating chart is extremely similar to the seating chart that US Airways uses, only in an all-Coach configuration.  Laugh out loud

I flew a public charter called SkyBus in the early 90's from EWR-SFB-FLL. I think a Private Jet 727 was the aircraft.
