New "Airline" Episodes On A&E

Wed Apr 21, 2004 7:40 am

Just saw this elsewhere... FYI...

A&E has extended the run of AIRLINE by airing some previously unseen footage, and following up on some popular stories.

See below:

A First-Class Look Behind the Scenes of the Most Memorable Stories From the First Season of the Hit A&E Network Series AIRLINE

NEW YORK, April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- During the soaring first season of A&E Network's hit series AIRLINE, viewers were exposed to all kinds of real life stories -- from in front of and behind the counters of Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV - News). Beginning Monday, May 24, you'll want to fasten your seatbelts for the stories behind the stories, with the World Premiere of six special episodes of AIRLINE: EXCESS BAGGAGE, airing at 10:00pm ET/PT and 9pm CT. AIRLINE currently airs Mondays at 10 & 10:30pm ET/PT. The second season of AIRLINE will premiere this summer on A&E.

AIRLINE: EXCESS BAGGAGE offers our Southwest Airlines characters (Mike, Yolanda, Vi, Colleen, Steve, Susie, Denise and others) a chance to tell their side of what happened during Season One as well as introduce never-before-seen footage of some of the more intriguing storylines. AIRLINE's most popular stories ranged from the awe-inspiring (Mike helping an elderly passenger with Alzheimer's) to the hair-raising (Colleen and team dealing with the multi- state power outage), to the flat-out hilarious (who can forget Val and the man dressed as a Tiger for no apparent reason?).

AIRLINE: EXCESS BAGGAGE will also give viewers a chance to get to know the familiar faces of Southwest Airlines better -- on the job and off! Of course, our characters are more than just agents, supervisors and managers -- Colleen is a hard-working mom of four, and Steve Ramirez is a secret salsa king on the dance floor! We'll take them out of the airport and into their personal lives to find out more about the men and women behind the uniforms.

I watched it for the first time on Monday. Yes. I don't care if you cry your tears of pity for me not watching the first season, but I am now officially hooked, and will NOT miss another season!  Big thumbs up Saw the first episode of the second season on Monday. Loved the part about the old man with his suitcase, when he complained about it being torn and was told the airport/airline or whoever handled the baggage was not liable for the suitcase being torn, and then he starts asking who he can appeal this to. And the tear was so small and insignificant  Laugh out loud

One of the most interesting episodes involved the "kid" who was learning how to push aircraft from gate 3A at LAX. I love the show, but this story was a nice change towards an aviation-related issue.

Why haven't other airlines clamored to be on this show? Why should it only be about one airline? As it is, it's just PR for Southwest...
Finally made it to an airline mecca!

I think it should focus more on the operations of different Airports around the U.S. and not just one airport. It should be 1-1hour episode each week detailing different operations of different airports. Like ATL one week, and DFW the next, LAX after that, and MIA after that, and smaller airports could be 2-30minute episodes.

Glad you're all enjoying the US version of airline; wish I could see it too. Here in the UK "Airline" has mainly revolved around our version of SWA (easyJet), although there was a series focusing on Britannia too. However, for airline variety it's hard to beat the BBC's "Airport" which has worked with staff from, among others, Aeroflot (anyone remember Jeremy?), Cyprus Airways, El Al (really loved David & Sarah  Big thumbs up ), Gulf Air and PIA.

Missed Monday's show, but I'll look forward to the showing of "Excess Baggage".

Interesting to see a rookie showing interest in MSY. At least, it sounds like interest.  Yeah sure

7E72004,

I have several (almost all) episodes on VHS tape. If you are really dying to get a hold of them, you could send me a blank tape (or two) and a prepaid envelope. I'll be happy to copy them for you. I'll send you a message through a.net.

BTW. Last Sunday, A&E had an "Airline" marathon. It was about three hours of first-season episodes. You all may want to keep an eye on the A&E schedules as they may do this again.

Cheers

It brought back memories of me working for WN at LAX and learning to push back 737's at Terminal One from Gate '3Alpha' and Gate 1. Thanks to the wall and the tight alley-way, it's much harder than it looks! I heard some 'not-so-lucky' ramp agents had made major errors in the past!

The other airlines WERE asked. In fact, I think if A&E had their druthers, they would have wanted to cover some international flights. Trouble is, instead of clamoring to say yes, the other airlines clamored for the door.
