RG LAX-GRU Service Reduction

Wed Apr 21, 2004 10:58 am

Just noticed that Varig has reduced LAX-GRU to 4 times weekly from daily. Anyone know why? I fly to Brazil 4 times a year and it's almost impossible to get a seat on this flight as they are always full. I live in Hawaii and start out in HNL and taking Varig from LAX nonstop to Brazil sure beats flying to IAH, ATL, MIA, or ORD.
You would think they would be ADDING service on this route, not reducing service. Is it because the Japanese citizens in transit now need US Visas? What gives?

RG still fly NRT-GRU via LAX 4 times a week, and NGO-GRU service is still suspended.

As procedures in LAX are hellish meanwhile, even for transit passengers, RG will route many Asia flights via Europe in the future.

Hi HALFA,

Yes, just because Brazilians need transit visa on their flight to Japan via USA.
RG lost a lot of customers on that route, that is sad.

So probably we will see RG flying to new destinations around Europe.

RG has already announced that it will fly to PEK via a European city (is it MUC?), so probably the flights to NRT will be rerouted soon after the PEK flights begin.
