Scanners; Which To Buy?

Wed Apr 21, 2004 1:24 pm

I know nothing about them, but I am starting to look for a scanner to listen to ATC while I'm out photo-ing. Can anyone suggest a good scanner for that purpose? Also, can the same scanner be used at NASCAR tracks to listen to drivers/crew chiefs? Money isn't a huge issue. Thanks for the help.

Hi bill. I have a Uniden Bearcat 120xlt which picks up ATC and police quite well, in OZ anyway.

Try a search in Aviation Hobby for "scanner" and you will find heaps of info.

Thanks Sean. Aviation Hobby was one forum I didn't think about searching in. Thanks for the Bearcat info also. I hope I don't get booted by the moderator for personal messages.

If its just for listening to traffic in and around your local airport you may want to consider the MR-318. Its a scanner, and AM/FM radio, and has good range, but much cheaper then the bearcat. Check out the link: http://www.thresholdaviation.com/categories.asp?cID=63
