SBN In The Past

Fri Apr 23, 2004 1:28 am

I lived in the South Bend area for a while (in the early to mid 90s) and was wondering what other airline service that SBN had such as in the 70s and 80s. anyone??  Smile

Well, looking at a United timetable eff October 26,1980, UA had:
2 nonstops to DEN
1 to Ft Wayne
1 12:15 am flt to MBS (Saginaw/Midland/Bay City,MI)

I'll bet North Central/ Republic had flights to DTW as well, but couldn't locate their timetable quickly.

Seems most airlines I looked at (AA,AL,DL,etc) most had service to Fort Wayne and that was as close to SBN as they got. I looked at AA 1983 timetable, and I thought they would have served SBN, but I was wrong.

I think Air Wisconsin flew there to ORD back then, too, but not sure.

In 1981, my sister and her husband flew into SBN to meet up with the rest of the family to go to a family reunion. I remember them arriving from DTW on a Republic DC-9, of either -10 or -30 series. They had flown US on ROC-DTW.

At that time, the new SBN terminal had just been completed. It was really a nice little facility, one-level, with about five or six mainline parking positions, and two or three jetways. The concourse had floor-to-ceiling windows and was very bright.
