Avia Airlines: Another Virtual Airline Or Real?

Fri Apr 23, 2004 2:46 am

I just read the news that an airline called "Avia Airlines" intends to start flights between Aruba and Amsterdam starting June 15th. However the airport says nothing has been formalized and they don't appear to have any of the necessary permits (one wonders if they even have an airplane that can fly Aruba - Amsterdam). My question has anyone a confirmed report that this airline exists, has an aircraft that can fly Aruba - Amsterdam or that's is just an airline like JetSky who, like Avia Airlines, also started selling tickets without anything formalized.

For those who can read Dutch here a link to the story

There was an airline in Aruba called Avia Air. They were an air taxi/commuter airline that flew to Bonaire and/or Curacao. They went under towards the latter part of 2003 I believe. I'm not sure if the management is the basis of this new airline, if they are using the same flight certificate, etc. They had a fleet of a few EMB-110s. It would be nice to see another airline serve AUA-AMS. I'd be interested to see what happens.

You are correct with your assumption. Avia Air's management is the basis for this new airline called Avia Airlines.

If it will ever fly remaims to be seen. Here is the link to a local newspaper in Aruba.
Sorry only in Dutch. But basically it says that they will not be able to fly by the date they set.

We'll see....

The Avia Airlines story continues......

According to a Ducth website (http://www.luchtvaartnieuws.nl) one of the people behind the new airline is someone who intended to start AirSintMaarten (the virtual airline aka travel agent). According to a news article the government of Aruba has given Avia Airlines no authorisation to fly nor do they have an aircraft (which according to me is an essential part of starting a new service) which can fly Aruba - Amsterdam. Needless to say the airline (Avia Airlines) will blame KLM when it doesn't take off on time crying that KLM used its (magic) power to prevent them from entering the market. However we all know that the real reason why this airline won't take the skies is because those in charge can't set up an airline.

BTW why doesn't the Dutch government do something against airlines which sell tickets but can't guarantee that they can operate the flight? We had AirSintMaarten, JetsSky and now probably have Avia Airlines all selling tickets while nothing has been arranged.

Hi,

Ads from Avia appeared since last week on free newspaper Metro in NL. They advertise cities like Bonaire, Aruba, Curacao, Puerto Plata, Paramaribo, etc.

I saw their advertising like two or three times in the past week.
