AA Adds JFK Back To STL.

Fri Apr 23, 2004 7:11 am

Checked my e-mail today and got this little note from my AAirmail today.

"Starting May 1,2004, AA will have 5 DAILY MD-80 flights STL-JFK. This will have the S80 and features MRTC."

"also on May 1, 2004, AA will add another STL-MSY flight with an RJ."

Is this true? This is quite a shock to see AA add a city and immediatly place it on mainline and have so many flights!!! I thought JFK wasn't profitabale for them to fly? I got this from American Airlines themseleves so im guessing its true. Great to see AA add JFK back. It was TWA'S biggest flagship route!

STL-LGA goes 5x S80 on that same day....has to be a typo. They wouldn't re-enter a market w/ 5 daily flights either.

If this were to be true.,..hwo would this be a strike? Jetblue does not fly STL-JFK nor do they even fly to STL at all!!

It's a typo, all schedules both before and after May 1 only offer connections. RDU, BOS, DCA and DFW are your options, lots of ERJs.

May 1st is so close also. It would be very poor planning to start so many flights on a new route with no advance advertising or promotion. Can you imagine all the empty planes on May 1st going from STL to JFK.

So is the STL-MSY addition a type also Big thumbs up

Hope not.

(still looking like Ill be working ATC at the STL tower come Dec12th)

No, but all they are adding is a Saturday-only ERJ.

Wasn't AA still flying one flight per day STL-JFK before the cutbacks last September? I would think one flight per day STL-JFK would be good for international connections, especially since AA no longer operates STL-LGW.

PRE-EMPTIVE strike. In other words, trying to build awareness and customer loyalty on the route to deter any jetBlue expansion plans into that market.

Even at the height of TWA's operations, they never had more than 4 nonstops a day in the market, plus a few one-stops. I highly doubt 5 MD-80's a day! Maybe one or two for connecting purposes.

Smells like a typo to me.

The extra section to MSY is great news however, a slow but sure build up of STL by AA might be in the cards. All those empty gates...better to build it back up a tad than risk a major LCC assault, tho no one seems too interested at the moment.

AHHHH ok AAtripleseven I gotcha now.

Unfortunatley, its must be a typo, thought ti was cool tho. They really need to watch out on the typos getting some people(like me) all excited over nothing. Thanks for all the clarifications.

There is only one destination that AA serves exclusively out of JFK, and that is (well, will be) Halifax, NS. Everything else can be reached quicker through Dallas, Miami, or Chicago. New York City/JFK is not a hub for American Airlines, and there is no need to connect it with St. Louis.

From what I was told last summer, JFK was a dismal performer, even when considered among the WN competitive routes. If this came back before SJC, PDX or DTW, I would be shocked.
