Cayman Airways Reborn!

Sat Apr 24, 2004 9:07 am

What do you guys think? Maybe Cayman Airways could go through a 'rebirth' program. A new identity and better service, the works.

Royal Caymanian Airlines

3 A320
4 A319
1 A330
2 Dash 8-300

Route Network (Grand Cayman based)

Cayman Brac
Little Cayman
Havana
Montegobay
Kingston
Miami
Tampa
Ft. Lauderdale
Orlando
Houston
Chicago
Washington DC
Toronto
Los Angeles
New York

How about some Boeing? Seems as if the classics have served them well over the years. Why not keep the commonality close and get some Next Gens? I wouldn't mind seeing Sir Turtle on the tail of a 73G or 738! I hardly think the name needs to change, although I haven't flown them since 1996, is their service that bad to need to change the name? Besides, Cayman Airways is a bit more recognizable than "Royal Caymanian Airlines" (no offense to your nationality). Just some thoughts.

Regards,
Trent

I like it, especially the new name, except I would change a few things:

3 737-800
4 737-700
1 767-400ER
2 CRJ-700

*The route network looks good!

Stick with the airbus fleet. Commonality brings costs down big time. Makes everything easier to maintain, personel easier to train, etc etc. Boeing's cool, but stick with the Airbus fleet. Either name works.

With a such a small fleet, commonality isn't as big of a deal. The dash 400Q's would be better  Big grin

It might be tough for you to get those Heathrow slots, maybe Gatwick is a more attainable goal?

I like the all-Airbus idea, but keep the name. I guess for domestic flights, the turboprop wins over the RJ. How about adding NAS to the list of destinations!  Smile

How about a mixed Boeing/Airbus Fleet? Would certainly make everybody happy when it comes to that annoying Boeing/Airbus rivalry. Either way, I wouldn't mind (Though I preffer Boeing).

Look, I like Boeing Aircraft a lot but thing is that Airbus fleets are just a lot cheaper to maintian. So stick with the All-Airbus fleet!

Panaman:

Nothings wrong really, just shouting out improvement. maybe ways for them to become profitable.

also: need to add those seaesonal flights from Grand Turk and Provo to Miami, the Grand Cayman-Port of Spain Carnival Charters, and the weekly Cincinatti and LaCieba runs.

I would love to see Cayman Airways become a major player in the caribbean aviation scene. What about replacing Atlanta with Boston or Philly, or add them to the list.
Or what about adding regional jets or bigger turboprops such as the DASH 8 and adding more interisland flights, or even possible flights between Cayman Brac and MIA.

This thread started out interesting but little kids as always try to make it into an A vs B debate.. nothing better to do? They are keeping the boeings enough said

has Cayman ever had a fatal accident for however long they've been operating? I'm just curious, they seem to be a pretty safe airline.

nope, not one fatal accident in nearly 40 years. i wouldnt add more inter island caribbean flying. the market is truly tiny out of our islands. we have no political of economical connections to the majority of the caribbean exept for jamaica and cuba. the Q-400 would be far too large, because they would be used for flights between GCM, CYB, and LCM only. maybe once weekly to supplement the jet service to Havana or jamaica.

Glad to hear they have such a good satety record, way to go! I was also surprised Aerocaribbean has flights from Cuba to Grand Cayman. I didn't know the two countries had ties.

regards

Too much competition from the US majors. Would never work. Look at BWIA & Air Jamaica. They can't seem to make a profit.
One can always fantasize. I used to live in Belize, and would love to do something like that for Belize too. Who knows what the future holds, I am working on my BS in Aviation management, maybe a Masters.

well, if their main purpose was never to pass a profit, then Cayman Airways would still be doing its job. so is the case with BWIA and Air Jamaica

Your proposed rebirth needs an alliance partner. Rather than purchase a small number of long haul A/C, they just need a common fleet to fly to major US/Canada population centers and the hubs of their alliance partners. I'd suggest SkyTeam, and service to ATL, DTW, CVG, IAH, EWR, and weekends to CLE.

I'm not sure, but they had alligned themselves with United at one point and codeshared on several routes out of Miami, Orlando, and Houston. wonder whatever came of that.
