Well, first sucker the fine folks of the San Joaquin Valley in California for startup cash, then:

AirJoaquin

CRJ-200: SCK-SAN,LAX,LAS
CRJ-700: SCK-DEN,PHX,PDX,SEA
DH8-200: SCK-SFO

Miniscule ffp, based on per trip credit.

Then, after my guaranteed cash flow evaporated, would scale back to 2 flights SCK-LAX w/ DH8, then fold after 1.5 years.

Then move to Wyoming to do same in Casper and Cheyenne.

I'd do it in my native country of Canada & here's the stats

Name: ?????????
Destinations:
From Vancouver: Calgary, Toronto Montreal San Francisco Los Angeles Phoenix Houston Dallas Denver Chicago New York Miami Mexico City Cancun Puerto Vallarta Honolulu Seoul Hong Kong Beijing Shanghai Tokyo Osaka Taipei Singapore Sydney London Paris Frankfurt

From Calgary: Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Los Angeles, Houston, Honolulu, Tokyo, London, Frankfurt, Puerto Vallarta, Chicago, Denver, Dallas

From Toronto: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Houston, Dallas, Denver, Chicago, New York, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Washington, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid, Stockholm, Manchester, Dublin, Munich, Athens, Prague, Moscow, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Osaka, Cape Town, Dubai, and Delhi.

From Montreal: Same as Toronto for US, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Nice

Fleet:
737-700's for short haul flights
A330-200's for short haul flights with heavy passenger loads and long haul flights with lighter loads
777-200ER's for long haul flight with heavier loads than the A330's can handle
777-200LR's for the really long flights (YVR-SIN, YVR-SYD)

A quickie on why no short haul flights within Canada to other cities. To do that, I'd set up a partnership/deal with WestJet and the other LCC's to let passengers connect, as WestJet suggested this to Air Canada in 1998, but they turned it down. Very smooth.

if I were to start an airline, I would not duplicate my mistakes in my current game of Airline Simulation. I would lease used aircraft and buy copious amount of vaseline.

An Edmonton-based airline that would kick AC's ass! Big grin It would also be allied with Oneworld.

CanPacific Airlines

Livery would be a resurrected version of CP Air, but with the red and orange portion on the fuselage painted in the same manner as UPS's new colors. The silver portion won't be bare metal, but rather a similar silvery gray paint to that of NWA's new colors.

CanPacific would be a full service carrier, although all short-haul flights under 1.5 hours will be all-economy.

Hubs: Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto

Fleet:
18 x EMB-190
10 x 737-600
12 x 737-700
10 x 737-800
10 x 757-200
All 737s fitted with winglets
8 x 767-200ER
8 x 767-300ER
6 x 777-200LR
4 x 777-300LR
4 x 747-400LR

Destinations (Domestic):
All major cities in Canada

Destinations (Transborder): San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York (LGA, JFK & EWR), Boston, Washington (IAD), Chicago, Houston, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Miami, Orlando, Honolulu, Anchorage.

Destinations (International):
Sydney, Auckland, Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, London, Singapore, Bangkok, Taipei, Frankfurt, Paris, Rome, Tel Aviv, Beirut, Mexico City, Kingston (Jamaica).

Flights to major sun desinations in the Caribbean and Mexico such as Cancun and Barbados would be offered on a seasonal/charter basis with vacation packages.

CanPacific Regional

Livery is basically the same as mainline - only the title is different.

Hubs: Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, Halifax.

Fleet:

25 x Dash 8-Q200
12 x Dash 8-Q300 (while the same # of seats - used only to airports where jet a/c is prohibited such as Toronto Island (YTZ) or where flight time is less than 35 minutes by prop like Vancouver-Victoria)
25 x CRJ-200
15 x CRJ-700
10 x CRJ-705 (this is actually a CRJ-900 fitted with only 75 seats - also has biz class)

Destinations (Domestic): Vancouver, Victoria, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Toronto, Thunder Bay, Montreal, Halifax and smaller communities greater than 25-30 mins flying time away from major hubs. Also Yellowknife and Whitehorse.

Destinations (Transborder):
Seattle, Portland (Oregon), Chicago, New York(LGA & EWR), Boston, Philadelphia, Washington (DCA).

CanPacific Executive

An all-business class division offering charters for executives and teams.

in the early days i would have the 707-727-757 all with leather seats transforming into first class suite beds
i would fly them anywhere where profitable first class segments are.

nowadays I would fly 717-737-747-767-777 all with leather seats transforming into first class suite beds
i would fly them anywhere where profitable first class segments are.

for real i would
have only 737BBJ's flying cross continentally ,transatlanticly and pacificly
with first class reclining suite beds .the most up to date + 2 massagists and 2 showers on boards. really exclusive for business people that want to sleep or work.

I don't. But I lived there from June 1979 to July 1980. Since, I have heard and seen the beginning and end of various air services to/from Stockton. We had lived in Lodi.

And AirJoaquin would code share with Skygate Airlines. I also think Palmdale-SMF would be a good route, for folks wanting to go to capital, etc.

AJ would also have a sister carrier, North Coast Jetlines. Flying CR7 Redding-Eureka/Arcata,CA-LAX, and ACV-RDD-DEN.

My airline would be called "JetRed Airways."

It'd fly a one-class fleet of all-Boeing 737-800 aircraft with leather seating and LiveTV at every seat. It'd have hubs at JFK and LGB. The tails of each aircraft would have a unique pattern.

- First (Domestic & narrowbody crafts): Have 40" pitch, 21" width, legrests, adjustable headrests, massager in seats.
- First Suites (On Boeing 777 crafts): I would model it after Emirates A345. Full service wet bar.
- Business Class (Transcon, International, on all 767's, 777's): Based after Singapore's Raffles Class (Only business class on 767's, no first class, like UA & AA's 767's) Full service stand bar.

- On international widebody planes, no DirecTV, sorry but in todays world, gov't regs. don't allow it. Instead all seats would have On-Demand entertainment of movies, TV shows, AVOD all the way!!! AirShow maps, etc. First class gets Bose headphones on B777.

Flying - Bulk would be domestic especially in south and transcons routes. Plus, alot of international in all of Europes destinations and Tokyo, Hong Kong, Osaka, Singapore, South Korea.

If almost anyone here would start an airline, it would be bankrupt before it even took to the air. You would also be in debt for the rest of your life...

Wanna bet?

I forgot to mention something in my original post: Aircraft utilization rates, gate usage, and other areas would look a lot like WN or FL. The fare structure would be very simple, with a total of 25 coach fares and 10 biz-class fares spread out over certain rules on how to apply them. No special sale fares would ever be offered because the basic T- and V-class fares would already be so low.
Those who fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it in summer school.
