Getting Rid Of 777 Or What?

Sat Apr 24, 2004 6:13 pm

Hey everyone, can someone help me figure out what this guy means..

Remark

"N78001 Looks very solid and exclusive those 777s of Contintental. I hope I will get the Peter Max once more before it's too late though."

Are they getting rid of the 777 ( Peter Max ) or just repainting it?

Repainting, not getting rid, shame really I often see it at LGW and I know you've flown the route. I'm not sure when but it's been around for quite some time now and they wouldn't get rid of it

Cheers

Well, I know EgyptAir has plans to get rid of their 777s. For now, I won't be surprise if SQ is considering the 7E7 to replace some of their first batch of 777s ( 8-9 years old ) !!!! ;p

Egypt wants to get rid of B777s? Where did you hear that? And SQ's oldest B777s are not even seven years old, so definitely no need for replacement. Their first aim to replace older B747s.

SV-SVC and UDO, Egyptair have decided to keep their fleet of B777-266ERs for the forceable future. They were considering removing it to become an all-airbus operator (as the 735s and 743s are leaving).

Well, I know EgyptAir has plans to get rid of their 777s.

MS was said to be considering a bid to rationalize their fleet for all-Airbus (by only two difference press releases), and people take it as godhonest fact  Laugh out loud

Anywho, the airline has no intention of divesting them at this point.

And SQ's oldest B777s are not even seven years old, so definitely no need for replacement.

It's become blantantly clear that SQ overestimated the potential of their markets, and have indeed considered divesting an unspecified number of their Trent884 powered fleet.

...problem is, replace them with what? They feel the A330, both variants, would present the same problem (i.e., too heavy wing for shorthaul missions) as the Triple7s; they've gotten rid of all their A310s, and the 767's subpar cargo performance is out of the question.

The only airline that seems to be getting rid of 777s right now is United and I hope they don't put any more in storage. BTW, any word yet on whether United plans to reactivate any of them? Or do they plan to put even more in storage?

737SR probably.

I'm assuming you intended to say "7E7SR"... since the 3-key is so close to E?

The only airline that seems to be getting rid of 777s right now is United and I hope they don't put any more in storage.

There's a big difference between storing an aircraft and dispensing of it, and since United will be pulling 747s out of the desert, some 777s will probably be reactivated as well.

Isn't there something about BA replacing their GE powered 777s in favour of RR powered units? Thought I saw indications of some of those older GE powered birds parked and out of service some time ago. Do they (all) have new homes by now?

ooookay.
So.... What is the plan? Are they keeping their current GE powered 777s but adding only RR powered 777s to the fleet?

United is NOT retiring their 777 fleet. It rotates planes in and out of the desert, just like it does with our 744 fleet.

They're not adding any 777s at this point... and if they do, it's likely to be GE90 powered models.

BA's first 777s were GE powered. They later switched to RR due to a major ourstanding RB211 order (result of converting previous 747 orders) as well as their desire for the Trent895, which at that time was more powerful than anything GE had on the table.

Huh?

Sun Apr 25, 2004 4:34 pm

I hate to chime in here but why would any carrier get rid of the best looking aircraft ever created? The 772 is the coolest aircraft ever...performs phenominally (atleast AA's 772s do..try them out), looks like a million bucks, and I don't hear too many problems about it. How could this plane possibly be phased out soon? I'll give it another 30 years, then maybe it'll be gone.

uhh no airlines decide their fleet decision based on how the planes look like. of course we know the b777 is modern, efficient and all and that why it is successful. Not of its looks!

I had thought that the 777 was first made in 97 not 95.... and didn't BA give off some of their older 777's to VIRG? And I saw up there that there are some 777-222!!!!!!!!! I can't see UA getting rid of too many 777's this early. I would try their 767 and 747 fleet first. I didn't think UA had THAT many 777ER's like maybe 5-10 of them and the rest just 777-222's.

You thought wrong  Smile

772A first entered service in 1995, with UA
772ER first entered service in 1997, with BA

and didn't BA give off some of their older 777's to VIRG?

Actually, they were taken up by Khalifa, who never operated them in scheduled service. Now they will op with VARIG.

34 (i.e., the majority) of UA's 777s are -222ERs.

Thank you ConcordBoy! Maybe I should think of a new name here at a.net for my lack of knowing UA's fleet! Does anyone know where I can look up up to date info on UA's fleet?

coolest looking aircraft ever created? If that's a reason to keep a plane we'd still be flying DC-3's from Miami to Atlanta. It's a great plane - no question about that, albeit a glorified looking 767.

and as far as the coolest plane ever created, my vote is for the 757 by a long shot--1000 planes can't be wrong!

What "date info" do you want:

Dates of Delivery?
Dates of Entry into Service?
...what?
