Your Impressions Of The A330-200?

Sun Apr 25, 2004 7:43 pm

Hi there A.netters  Smile

In a little over a week, Myself and Myt332 fly on a Thomas Cook A332 to Cuba!  Big thumbs up This flight is around about 10-11 hours from MAN.

For those guys who have flown on the A330, I wanted to know your overall impression of this Aircraft? Comfort, Cabin Noise, Room etc etc?!

Also how similar is it to the A340 in terms of these above factors?

Best Regards,

Justin  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

The 332 is by far the best long-hauler out there! Followed by the 767-200ER.

It is very quiet, not as quiet as the A340 though. I can't tell you anything about the cabin as such, since I have not been on "your" airline.

Have a great time in "evil" Cuba!

My only experience on an A330 was with Emirates, and it was the best aircraft out of their fleet in my opinion. The cabin is nice and spacious and light helped by the 2-4-2 configurartion. I know TCX have 3-3-3 config so you might feel a bit cramped but i'm sure you won't mind that! Are you in the Premium section or economy?

I'll risk being burned to death by posting a link from another site which shows TCX's A330 interior...

I have flown on Sri Lankan's A330-200 from London to Colombo and Colombo to Singapore via KUL. I had a great flight on this beautiful and quiet aircraft. If only the cabin is '777' style, A330 will be my no 1 choice aircraft whereever I go.  Smile

Try and get seats near the back of the aircraft because the configuration goes from 3-3-3 to 2-3-2 (well it did on MyTravel any way  Big grin) and there is alot more room in the aisle. Also on MyTravel, they had downstairs toilets in some cabins, which was quite good i thought.

Have a great trip!

I've been on both TCX 332s albeit when they were still JMC. Legroom was fine for a charter - 30" I believe., and everyone had a free blanket, pillow and bottle of water waiting in their seat (not sure if they still do this though, it was 2 years ago.) I assume you know you will have PTVs, although you don't get the forward and downwards cameras like you do on MYT. On both journeys I sat adjacent to the front of the engines and found the flight to be very comfortable, smooth and above all, quiet - the engines seemed quieter than, say, the 757 when I have been sat in a similar position.

As for comparing to the 340, I don't know, I've never flown on one.
Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away...

A330 is a very nice plane. Have flown them on several Aer Lingus trips between JFK and SNN, and Aer Lingus' cabin appointments make it very comfortable besides. It's also simply a great looking aircraft.

My direct comparison with the A340 wouldn't be quite fair - had disastrous trip R/T between JFK and BRU on 2 of Sabena's A340s in 1998. Scary problems - cabin lights in entire sections going on and off at random (without flight attendant control), all in-ceiling video screens lowering and raising again uncommanded during taxiing and takeoff roll - causing not a few concerned shouts from flight attendants back and forth etc. Also injured my hand in the lavs when the undersink steel door hiding extra soaps etc swung and hit me, and a sharp edge cut me (the retaining latch didn't work - and why would such a door not be covered by safety standards mandating rounded-off edges?). These were probably a combination of airline maintenance problems and glitches with the 'plane itself, but either way didn't instill a lot of confidence.

Again though, loved the 330.

I think its a great plane, especially when you are in Emirates' configuration of the economy class and with PTVs.

The A330 es comparable to other widebodies in my opinion, at back in coach it is. When it is a full flight, you are bumping elbows with at least one other person, the seats have the same feel as most others, and I was not impressed with EI's IFE (I was on one of their A333s, so no PTVs). The only advantage over a 777 or DC10 from a passenger perspective is that there is no center seat in the middle bank. IMO, even the A320 series is more comfortable.

A one fine aircraft - and one of my favorites of all time!

Horus, nice EG livery. I don't mind it on MEA's either!!

One of the best aircraft ever created. By far it is my favourite. Just came back from FLL on Air Transats A330-300 with 2-4-2 seating. Excellent flight, smooth and very comfortable. I went down on the A330-200 C-GITS Azores Glider and it was also great, but it was 3-3-3 seating. I got a good window seat by the wing though so that was the best. If you arent in premium, make sure to get a window seat by the wing. Its the greatest to watch on takeoff and landing.

Regards,
BWIA330

Enjoy your trip

I've only flown the A330-200 twice, on a round trip from Miami to Sao Paulo with TAM. An excellent aircraft! Comfortable, smooth, quiet to fly in, and a great looking airplane to boot! I don't know about Thomas Cook's configuration, but TAM's is very nice.

cheers, Ralph

Hi

I've flown BMI A330-200 MAN-ORD return only last month. Plenty of leg room and excellent IFE with a 2-4-2 configuration. But then again that was a scheduled aircraft. Not sure what it will be like inside a charter one. Sometimes they try to shove an extra seat in.
