TWA 767s In Old Paint Scheme

Mon Feb 07, 2000 3:17 am

When I was flying out of JFK last weekend, I notice that there were two TWA 767s at the TWA terminal still in the old paint scheme.

I thought TWA had repainted all of their 767s. What gives?

They are probably old models that are going to be retired soon or are leased and are to be returned to the leaser soon.

Actually, They repaint them during the D checks... Some of the 767's went thru D check and the paint shops were backed up so they didn't make it yet.

There are one or two 767-300ER's still in old c/s and I believe around 5 of the 767-200's in the old c/s. These numbers are a little dated so it is possible some more have been repainted...

These planes are due to be returned to the lessor shortly. Therefore, the cost of repainting is unjustified.

Actually,

The 767-300ER's are due to be around for a while. But, they could not be painted last time without them being out of service for a significant time due to paint shop backlogs... I would guess they will be repainted on the net C or D check.

They were much needed one is currently flying the STL-HNL run the other is one of the three cycling on the STL-JFK-CAI-RUH-CAI-JFK-STL-LAX-STL circuit.
