Update On Fenix... First Ever LCC In Colombia?

Wed Apr 28, 2004 3:32 am

Hello,

Found an article on Fenix.
It says that Fenix will operate as a low cost airline in the beginning, between 3 and 6 months after its start. Fenix will maintain prices between 30 and 35 % down the tickets cost of other airliners.
The first flight of Fenix is expected to take place in up to 80 days after it had received a licence from the Colombian civil aviation (Aerocivil) on April 20th
Fenix will keep insisting with the Aerocivil to receive a licence on local destinations according to Ismael Enrique Arcniegas (manager director of Fenix)

http://www.economiaenred.com/empresarial/notas/16938.html

Does this mean that they will be the first Colombian LCC?
Or the first LCC in the Andean region? (Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Panama and Venezuela?

Cheers

Although not officially regarded as a LCC, I always saw West Caribbean Airways as one.

And if you look closely, their operation method is quite similar to the LCC's strategy. Aircrafts configured in one-only economy class, fast turn arounds, high aircraft utilisation, and fares are almost always lower than the competition's.

Anyway, let's see how Fenix' operation goes...

According to the business plan Aerolineas Fenix has; this is going to be an International LCC based at BOG.

Fenix according to its operational permit must start its operation in 180 days not 80 days as you quoted above.

The idea for Fenix is to start initially the neighboring routes from BOG to UIO, CCS; LIM and SCL; with Boeing 757-200´s configured with a single semi business class, 170 seats with 38 inches of pitch and a 45KG baggage allotment per passenger with the lowest approved tariff for the tickets allowed by the Colombian Aeronautica Civil which regulates prices here in the country.

If you need to contact Fenix here is the address, you can contact Capt Guillermo Chavarriaga or Eng Luis Gonzalo Gomez for further information

Recursos Corporativos.

Soon they will have their web address, I will post it when I have it.

I have the Fenix logo but don´t know how to post them here. If anybody wants them please contact me.

Sorry Felipe (Copa737) no PTY route assigned to Aerolineas Fenix, even though it was requested in its route structure.

The reason being that the bilateral traffic rights agreement between Colombia and Panama would have to be rengotited to accomodate new operators on the route.

SOUTHAMERICA,

yes you're right on WCA.
I forgot about them. I thought they where a normal airliner and not an LCC, but with the points that you've mentioned about them, you can considering them as LCC. Thanks for the info on that!

A question on WCA
Do they also advertise in Colombia, like that they're the cheapest around?? For example with stunt-prices/ low prices???

Regards
Willem Alberto

Hello AV757 / Eddy!

Thanks a lot for your info on Fenix!
Ok you right on the 180 days.... but I thought (after reading the article) that they were aloud to start their service in that period of 180 days. So its expected that they will have a first flight before this limit, or is this a false thought?
Do you know if the first 5 aircrafts will be these B757's or B737's (what I've heard before) and when will they start their flights to Europe with 767's?

I'm very interested in the new logo from Fenix. Can you send me them?
Please contact me on wimpycol@hotmail.com

Thanks in advance.

Aerolineas Fenix expects to be flying in early september of this year, the initial flights are going to be:

BOG-UIO-BOG
BOG-LIM-BOG
BOG-CCS-BOG
BOG-SCL-BOG
BOG-SJU-BOG

First stage of operation will be:

Four Boeing 757-200 airplanes configured with a single semi business class seating arrangement of 170 seats and 38 inches of pitch betweeen seat rows; also the lowest ticket price allowed by the Colombian Aeronautica Civil; which regulates prices on all routes from the country; and will have a 45 KG´s of luggage allowance for its passengers.

Second stage:
By mid 2005
Two Boeing 767-200 or 300 under negotiation for

BOG-AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA-BOG
BOG-PAR-BOG
BOG-LON-BOG

Also the main idea is to get ADZ and LET with CTG to promote tourism to the above mentioned paradises of Colombia from Europe with all inclusive packages.

Once operational the airline will bid for the national routes within Colombia to start up in late 2005 or early 2006, those will be operated with 6 to a possible 10 Boeing 737´s; according to passenger traffic growth outlook from here to 2006 will decide which 737 family of aircraft. The studies have been done with 737-200, 300, 700NG or 800NG.

Yes you are right:

BOG-SJU-BOG

Will be operated 3 times a week

JFK, EWR, ATL, MIA, FLL and MCO were requested but were denied for now; since the bilateral agreement between Colombia and the United States allows for 78 weekly flights back and forth; right now 68 are operating and 10 are allocated but not in operation.

Fenix was told that after it starts operation the renegotiation of the bilateral agreement between Colombia and the U.S. may occur since there are also other American operators that have requested to expand and start up new routes to Colombia.

Dear All.

BA has reduced its prices on all their routes. A LCC is not just about low prices, it's a totally different business model. A single proof, WCA and Fenix will still depend on travel agents as a distribution channel, furthermore, they still offer "Classic service" unlike "no frills carriers".
Last, but not least, they still operate under the hub scheme. LCC serve city pairs.

However I think it's very healthy hearing about new competitors in Colombia.
After Aces VX there's still a vacuum to fill in the Colombian Air Transport industry.
LHR, BHX, EDI, BKK, USM, CNX, PHU, GRU,PEI, BOG, CTG, CPH, AMS, DOH, DXB, FRA, MAD and always PEI

Willem,

Thanks for the heads up, and check your email!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

AV757,

Can you tell us of any other American carrier that wants to fly to Colombia? Which are they and what routes do they have in mind?

I think in the instructions on how to post pics from the database, etc, there are also instructions on how to post pics from other websites or from your pc.
