QF Cabin Crew - My New Career?

Wed Apr 28, 2004 2:43 pm

Hi,

Are there any QF cabin crew out there?
I'm after some advice on how difficult it is to get into Qantas as cabin crew.

I've checked out the info on the QF website and will be submitting my application over the website shortly, but I'm just after some advice from someone who has been through the process already.

I'm specifically interested in the following questions:
- will I immediately be discounted if I don't have a 2nd fluent language?
- what is the pay like?
- do QF use a bidding system for rostering flights?
- does everybody start off on domestic then move to longhaul after you gain experience?

Comments anyone?

Thanks.

Airborne

To answer your questions :

Yes QF using a bidding system its called patscan and its a web based application that you can log onto from home to check out patterns and do your electronic bidding. Bidding is done 2 monthly at a time

Pay for AUS crew roles is quite good base is a good pay + allowances are the real bonus

I notice that your profile says your from Thailand - if your an aussie living there you would surely have some great Thai language skills .... If not and your a thai national, QF has a BKK crew base that are not QF employees but rather employees of Adecco Bangkok - these crew are paid a lot less that QF crew but get some long trips up to 7 days including SYD/MEL/LHR/AB) (FRA / FRF / EDDF), Germany">FRA/HKG etc.

No QF international also recruits directly to long haul - the waiting list to go from Short to long is long and from long to short is huge !

Maybe try EK first - go to DXB - toughen it out over in the UAE or 18months to 3 years come back and then interview for QF.

Either way - QF loves good looking boys so if you fit this - you should do well !

Good Luck
Cheers

Thanks for the insight Industrybuff.

Can you give a very rough base salary indication??
For the allowances, do these depend on the city you stop at (ie higher allowance for a more expensive city), or is it the same rate regardless of the stop?

I am an aussie living in BKK, so that excludes me from applying through Adecco BKK; and yes I do have thai language skills (basic, but improving).

Will my chances of being accepted be reduced if I am married? (Maybe QF aren't allowed to ask that question under anti-discrimination laws??)  Smile

Is there a way I can contact you (eg email) rather than clog up the forum?

Thanks again.

Cheers.

Are you living in BKK just now? Where are you in BKK?
I am in BKK and interested in being QF cabin crew too.
I work in Scandinavian airlines office on Sukhumvit road.
